Eoghan O’Connell on Wrexham position after Wycombe defeat
Wrexham may still feel that this was a missed opportunity.
Victory on Saturday would have taken Wrexham level on points with Wycombe, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
One train of thought is that Wycombe don’t lose many games and Wrexham should have been there to capitalise on them playing against the league leaders.
There will be many twists and turns to come though and Wrexham will feel comfortable sitting two points behind Wycombe right now.
Wrexham defender Eoghan O’Connell has now been asked for his thoughts on the promotion race after Wycombe’s defeat.
The Irishman told Wrexham’s official YouTube channel that he and the squad knew that this season would be difficult with so many ‘very good teams’ in League One.
O’Connell noted that Wycombe lost at Birmingham lost Saturday, leaving Wrexham two points behind – a position he would have taken before the season started.
O’Connell feels that Wrexham are in a ‘great place’ right now, gearing up for 13 crucial games before the season ends.
“We knew coming into this season it was going to be tough, there’s a lot of very good teams in this league and we knew we had to be on our game,” said O’Connell.
“I think Wycombe lost, did they? So, what, we’re two points behind with 13 games to go, so I think if you offered everyone that at the start of the season, we’d probably have taken it – it’s a great place to be in,” he added.

Rob McElhenney believes in Wrexham’s promotion hopes despite some up-and-down form of late and there are huge games to come.
One date is glaring on the calendar – the trip to face Wycombe on March 15.

Wrexham go to Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night before hosting Rotherham United next Saturday.
Parkinson returns to former club Reading on March 11, just days before taking on Wycombe away from home.
