Wrexham showed that they are a side not to be taken lightly in this season’s Championship despite a 2-1 opening day defeat to Southampton.
Wrexham fans lavished praise on Josh Windass for his performance as he opened his account for the club from the penalty spot.
Phil Parkinson’s side will now turn their attentions to the EFL Cup clash with Hull City at the Racecourse Ground as they look to put last season’s first round disappointment behind them.
Despite an opening day defeat in the league, Wrexham have been praised by one of their Championship rivals alongside Birmingham for what they are bringing to the division.

Charlton Athletic managing director praises Wrexham and Birmingham impact on Championship
Speaking to talkSPORT as per London World, Charlton Athletic managing director Jim Rodwell has praised Wrexham and Birmingham for raising the ‘profile’ of the Championship.
When talking about his own club’s transfer business so far this summer, Rodwell stated: “We haven’t quite got the depth in squads of some of our competitors but I’m thrilled with what we’ve done.

“Listen, I love what Birmingham do and I love what Wrexham do, I think it brings profile to the division. I’m just delighted to be in it but we’re not here to make up anyone’s numbers.”
Charlton got their campaign off to a winning start with a 1-0 victory over Watford and have been as busy as Wrexham in the market, acquiring nine new faces so far.
Parkinson still wants to add to his Wrexham squad before the deadline and has shown equally as much ambition with eight new faces to North Wales.
How Wrexham and Birmingham’s summer spending compares so far
There is no doubt that the rivalry between Wrexham and Birmingham adds a new interest to the second tier this season.
Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are not holding back when it comes to flexing their financial muscles and are trying to compete with Tom Wagner and Tom Brady at the Blues.

The two sides face each other at the Racecourse on October 3rd and both teams will be hoping they head into that clash in the higher reaches of the division given the ambition shown in the market this summer.
