Wrexham’s meteoric rise under Phil Parkinson has led to them outperforming Manchester City and Arsenal in one key area this year.
2024 has been one of the best years in Wrexham’s long history.
It began with the Red Dragons battling it out with the likes of Stockport County and Mansfield Town for promotion from League One.
Phil Parkinson’s side were unable to secure top spot in April but still earned automatic promotion from the fourth tier with Stockport clinching first place.
The battle between those two sides has since continued into the current campaign.
Wrexham have won four and drawn one of their opening five League One fixtures, seeing them sat top of the division ahead of the weekend’s action getting underway.
Stockport, meanwhile, are hot on their heels in second place with 10 points accumulated from a possible 15.
After beating Wycombe Wanderers 3-2, Reading 3-0, Shrewsbury Town 3-0 and Peterborough United 2-0, the Welsh side are the top scorers in the third tier.

Wrexham lead Manchester City and Arsenal in key stat
While the likes of Jack Marriott, Elliot Lee and Paul Mullin have helped Wrexham produce a deadly attacking output, it is another area of their game that has been even more crucial to their recent success.
Parkinson’s men have so far conceded two goals in the 2024/25 league season, both of which came at the Racecourse Ground on the opening weekend.
Despite those two goals though, Wrexham are still leading the entire EFL in one very impressive statistic.
The Red Dragons have, so far, conceded just seven goals in all domestic competitions when playing at home in 2024.
That is the fewest of any side in the entire EFL, with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City (8) and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal (9), rounding out the top three.

Wrexham stat will not help them against Birmingham City
Unfortunately for Parkinson, that staggering stat will not help him in this gameweek.
Wrexham face Birmingham City in a top-of-the-table League One clash on Monday, September 16th.
Birmingham are expected to be one of the promotion contenders this term, so seeing off them would massively boost Wrexham’s chances of earning a place in the Championship for the 2025/26 season.
However, Monday’s fixture is set to take place at St Andrew’s, meaning the away outfit will not be able to lean on their superb home defensive record.
This probably won’t worry Parkinson too much though, as his team are still yet to concede an away goal in League One this term, managing a shutout despite heavy pressure from another top team, Bolton Wanderers, last month.
