Wrexham look set to have signing number three in the bag, with reports that Empoli and New Zealand left-back Liberato Cacace is set to move to the Racecourse this summer.
Despite being on the other side of the world right now, it looks as though Wrexham have secured signing number three, and it looks as though it could be announced very soon.
Earlier in the month, reports revealed that Wrexham were working on a deal to sign Liberato Cacace from Empoli: a 24-year-old left-back who also plays for the New Zealand international side, which is coincidental, or maybe not, as the team are in New Zealand right now.
Phil Parkinson’s side play Wellington Phoenix on the 19th before returning to Wales, and there looks set to be a new face to welcome them back to the Racecourse in Cacace.
Reports on Wednesday revealed that Wrexham have reached an agreement to sign Cacace from Serie B side Empoli, in what looks set to be a club record deal of £2.2million.

What the Italian media are saying about Liberato Cacace to Wrexham
As ever with transfers, fans won’t celebrate until the player is officially signed, pictured holding up the club shirt and so on. But all signs are pointing towards Cacace becoming signing number three for the Dragons, after both Ryan Hardie and Danny Ward joined Wrexham this summer.
And if reports in Italy are anything to go off, it looks like Cacace is a done deal. Multiple outlets in the country are reporting that Cacace is set to join Wrexham. Calcio Lecce say Cacace is ‘close to signing for Wrexham’, Europa Calcio report that a move is ‘very close’, whilst Empoli Channel say that an ‘official announcement awaits’.
On top of that, there are numerous reports that Empoli are already looking at signing a replacement for Cacace, with Westerlo’s Tuur Rommens now a rumoured target for the Italian club.
Liberato Cacace’s stats for Empoli in 2024/25
Right now, Cacace is just a name to Wrexham fans. We don’t know a whole lot about him other than he’s looking set to join Wrexham.
A Wellington native, Cacace now has 33 caps and one goal for New Zealand, having began his career with Wellington Phoenix before getting a dream move to Europe in 2020 with Belgian side Sint-Truiden, spending two years there before joining Empoli.

Last season in Serie A, he made 33 total appearances with 24 of those being starts, scoring twice and assisting four more, as Empoli finished in 18th place and were relegated from the Italian top flight.
He arrives with great experience and pedigree then, and Cacace will certainly add top flight quality to a Wrexham side that desperately needs an injection of quality ahead of next season, especially after their disappointing 2-1 defeat against Sydney FC last time out.
