Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney has issued an update on what the future of the club could look like.

It has been a relatively smooth process for Wrexham since the Hollywood takeover, with success on the pitch leading to back-to-back promotions to League One.

Since the Hollywood takeover, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have been able to support manager Phil Parkinson in bringing key names to the Racecourse.

Stars like Paul Mullin, Elliot Lee, Steven Fletcher and James McClean have shown the transfer pull that the club have had in recent seasons.

The coming season is the toughest test yet for the ownership with the step up in quality.

The Red Dragons are reaching new heights under McEllhenney and Reynolds, but the former has discussed the current ownership structure and how that might change if Wrexham’s success continues.

If Wrexham secures promotion to the Championship in the coming years, a future financial plan may have to be put in place.

Rob McElhenney admits Wrexham may need future investment partners

When the Hollywood owners took over in North Wales they had very high ambitions and dreams of taking the Red Dragons from the National League to eventually become a Premier League club.

Recent success has put a special reputation on Wrexham and the journey that they are on under the current ownership.

Speaking to the Independent on the future of his and Reynolds’s ownership model, McElhenney said: “We always knew at a certain point we’d have to bring on some kind of capital partner.

“When you’re talking about teams that are up in Championship, Premier League level, you’re competing with sovereign nation wealth. We’ve been holding off for as long as we possibly can.

“We believe that we can make it through this season or as long as we’re playing in a lower league, or below. But once we get into those upper echelons, it’s a lot more difficult.”

Potential Wrexham investors must follow the Hollywood owners’ principles

Since arriving in North Wales, the Wrexham ownership has been praised for their work both on and off the pitch.

On-field success will take the majority of the attention, but it’s the small details behind the scenes that give the ownership due merit.

Both Reynolds and McElhenney have attempted to respect the club’s 159-year history and its connection to the local community.

They often help support local charities and are committed to being engaged with the local fanbase.

If they do have to look for investment in the future, they will have to consider the Wrexham community and the promises they made when taking over the club.

Any investor must follow the current owners’ principles because it has been refreshing to see owners who are dedicated to the club’s past and future while remaining engaged with its community.

With the club progressing rapidly up the Football League it was likely to gain interest from potential investors. If the owners do need to seek a partner, they must ensure they take due diligence before committing to any future deal.
