Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney has taken to social media to make an interesting announcement this week.
Rob McElhenney took over Wrexham along with Ryan Reynolds back in 2021 after being inspired by the Sunderland Till I Die documentary.
McElhenney looked at buying several teams before the Red Dragons, including Hartlepool United.
In the end, the American settled on Wrexham and has since taken the club to new heights alongside Ryan.
The pair have given the club a global audience, and with it has come a lot more coverage.
Now, McElhenney has made an interesting announcement this week.

Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney’s announcement
Taking to social media at 11:30pm UK time on July 1, the actor made a video saying that he is changing his name.
McElhenney responded to reports about Wrexham’s valuation earlier this year after his name was left out, with Reynolds the only co-owner mentioned.
Now, given the trouble people have spelling or saying his name, he has decided it will be shortened to ‘Rob Mac’.
He said: “Yes, I’m shortening my name to Rob Mac, mostly a stage name, but I digress. Is that kind of ——- sure, but the amount of time that I’ve wasted trying to get people to either say or spell my name correctly is literally days of my life, trust me I added it up.
“More importantly, it means thousands of you have had minutes of your life stolen by me because of my last name including this one. So it’s a family name my grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and I all share it, and I love them and I want to stay connected there’s heritage.
“Except it’s not even really our ——- name. Not only have many generations changed the spelling, the current one was just given to my ancestor by a government official who decided that this was now the spelling.
“But times have changed and most people already call me Rob Mac anyway. My family knows me and loves me regardless of how many syllables I have, and that’s the only thing that I really care about. There are so many things going on in the world and this is a silly one to continue to waste your time with. Honestly, call me whatever you want, Marian, Jerome, Archibald, Maurice, Stephanie, Francis, Marvin, Gordon, or Sam. But maybe we just keep it simple and try Rob Mac and see how it goes.”
Rob McElhenney helping Wrexham transfer
After backing the club well in January, Wrexham won a third successive promotion.
They are now preparing for life in the Championship, and most recently signed Danny Ward on a free transfer.
More signings are expected, however, with McElhenney helping Wrexham try to complete a transfer, as Phil Parkinson confirmed.
He said: “We’re looking to sign a player and we’ve got a lot of competition to get the signature,” said Parkinson.
“I spoke to Rob and Ryan about it so they put a call in to the player as well, explained the back story and why we wanted them.”
