Wrexham have completed their second signing of the summer transfer window, welcoming Danny Ward back to the club.

The Welsh outfit kicked off their summer business by landing Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle for £700,000.

Plenty of players have since been linked following the striker’s arrival on June 16.

Now, Wrexham have confirmed the signing of Danny Ward on July 1, with the player arriving on a free transfer.

Ward left Leicester City at the end of his contract, returning to his local club, whom he left all the way back in 2012.

How much did Wrexham sell Danny Ward to Liverpool for

Ward is a Wrexham native and spent several years at the club as a youngster.

The goalkeeper’s only previous appearance for the Dragons came in a Welsh Cup clash versus Airbus in 2011.

Despite this, at just 18 years of age, the shot-stopper secured a transfer to Liverpool back in January 2012.

Andy Morrell was player-manager at the time and commented on Ward’s exit, as per BBC Sport.

He said: “It’s a great move for Danny. He goes with our best wishes,” said Wrexham’s player-manager Andy Morrell.

“It will be great to see him playing top flight football in the not-too-distant future.”

The report from the BBC 13 years ago said that Liverpool were paying around £100,000 to sign the Wrexham keeper.

Now, we have taken a look at where the returning star ranks among the club’s record sales.

Wrexham record sales

Bryan Hughes is Wrexham’s record sale, joining Birmingham City in a deal worth £1m back in 1997.

As is to be expected, given they recently spent 15 years in the National League, the Dragons haven’t sold too many players for a lot of money since then.

Transfermarkt’s list of record Wrexham sales has Ward sitting at number 16, just below Joey Jones, who joined Liverpool and one spot above Steve Watkin, who joined Swansea City.

No players signed under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds crack the top 20, which is to be expected given that the majority of exits under their current owners have been free transfers.
