Rob McElhenney enjoyed Wrexham’s promotion in 2024 but may have his dream sporting year on the horizon.

Wrexham’s rise since Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ £2million takeover has been remarkable and there may well be more to come.

Phil Parkinson has guided Wrexham to back-to-back promotions, rapidly rising from the National League to League One.

Wrexham now sit third in the League One table, just two points off an automatic promotion spot.

A third promotion in a row would be quite remarkable and something Wrexham fans could barely have even thought about in their wildest dreams just a few years ago.

Wrexham are heading towards the business end of the League One season but McElhenney is already on cloud nine right now.

Rob McElhenney offers to pay NFL star’s fine

McElhenney is watching Wrexham from afar and whilst the club is close to his heart, the Philadelphia Eagles remain his true love.

Philadelphia born and raised, McElhenney is a lifelong Eagles fan and he tasted the ultimate success last weekend.

The Eagles won the Super Bowl, dismantling the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL’s showpiece event.

McElhenney witnessed the Eagles’ first Super Bowl win in 2018 and has seen a repeat in 2025.

McElhenney celebrated last week’s Super Bowl victory by claiming that it was a top five night of his life with some Wrexham success surely up there too.

We would forgive McElhenney if Wrexham haven’t exactly been at the forefront of his mind over the last week or so.

One Eagles player has been hit with a fine after the Super Bowl though with Jalyx Hunt on the receiving end.

Hunt was fined almost $6,000 for a bow-and-arrow celebration during the game – something the NFL consider to be a violent gesture.

Hunt confirmed the fine on X and McElhenney has responded having seen the Eagles star suffer a dent to his pay packet.

McElhenney has offered to pay the fine in full, believing that it’s ‘worth every penny’ as he and Eagles fans everywhere remain on top of the world.

Hunt instead wants to pay the fine himself and urged anybody wanting to pay up to instead donate the money to charity.

Wrexham can make 2025 almost perfect for Rob McElhenney

2025 started with difficulties for McElhenney and his family as the LA wildfires caused evacuation in January.

McElhenney was able to return home later in January but the devastating impact will have left the Wrexham co-owner needing some positivity.

The Eagles supplied that last week but a Wrexham promotion combined with a Super Bowl win would be as close to sporting perfection as possible for McElhenney.

There is a long way to go yet but Wrexham are in a great position and have that winning mentality after two promotions in a row.

Who knows how the second half of 2025 could end up, but if you had asked McElhenney for his dream for the year, an Eagles Super Bowl win paired with a Wrexham promotion would surely have been his answer – and it may yet come true.
