Wrexham star, James McClean has been praised for his performance against Wimbledon and now fans have reacted.
This weekend saw Wrexham keep up their great start to the season and move up to second in the League Two table.
Wimbledon travelled to The Racecourse and had the better of the opening 45 but couldn’t make their chances count.
This saw Phil Parkinson’s side take advantage and come out for the second half as much the better side for the most part. This was to the delight of co-owner, Rob McElhenney.
Thanks to goals from Steven Fletcher and then Paul Mullin within eight minutes of each other, the Reds secured three points.
The away side weren’t without their chances throughout the game but Wrexham took a third consecutive win.
There was one player who stood out amongst fans for his impact on all the goals to help get one over the Dons.
Wrexham fans react to James McClean
It is safe to say that James McClean was on top of his game this weekend as he was creating plenty of chances all game.
There were a lot of good things to say about the Irishman against Wimbledon. Going forward, he was the creator in chief for the Reds.
According to FotMob, he had 70 touches which saw him have two successful dribbles and five accurate crosses. These were where the goals came from as Fletcher tapped in from a corner and Mullin made the most of poor defending.
Going the other way, McClean had a 100% tackle success rate and made five other defensive actions throughout the 90.
This prompted the official Wrexham Twitter account to make a post saying: “How good was Maca today!”
This prompted fans to react on social media as McClean was quite superb against Wimbledon on the day. One fan reacted saying: “Unplayable second half. Great performance.”
It is safe to say with an assist and being unlucky to not get another for the goal from Mullin which saw the Welshman apologise. He may have had another assist to him later in the game but his header hit the ground.
Another fan reacted saying: “Class. He is just getting better and better. His crosses are superb too.”
It must be said that, given that he put in 11 crosses throughout the game, you would hope that at least some of them would work. That they did given that both goals came from them.
This factor just adds another arrow to the Wrexham quiver. From Mullin’s magic to Elliot Lee’s goalscoring exploits, the Reds now have plenty of different routes to goals. McClean was superb and long may his great performances continue moving forward.
