Wrexham fans left in the dark as wait for Southampton tickets goes on ahead of Championship kick-off

Wrexham’s Championship season kicks off in less than two weeks, but a ticketing fiasco is threatening to overshadow the excitement.

Wrexham’s tour of Australia and New Zealand came to an end last week, and it’s now a case of full steam ahead for the Championship season.

Phil Parkinson recently brought in four new signings, capping off a transfer spree by bringing Lewis O’Brien to Wrexham.

Wrexham take on Southampton in less than a fortnight, kicking off the Championship season with a trip to the South Coast.

Fans will be excited to see O’Brien in action alongside fellow recent signings Liberato Cacace, George Thomason and Josh Windass.

The problem is that Wrexham fans still can’t buy tickets for the trip to Southampton, and the fiasco is threatening to overshadow the build-up to the new season.

Wrexham ticket fiasco ahead of Southampton clash

Look underneath any post from Wrexham’s official X account, and you will see supporters begging for ticket information on the Southampton game.

With less than a fortnight to go, Wrexham fans still can’t purchase tickets for the game against Southampton.

Forget the signings for a second, this is the biggest talking point for Wrexham fans right now, and you cannot avoid it on social media.

‘Can we have Southampton tickets instead, please?’ read one post on an interview with new signing O’Brien.

‘Fancy putting the ticket on sale then, lads?’ read another message as Wrexham showed off players in training.

Another post of Wrexham players in training was met with a similar response: ‘How about the Southampton tickets? People have to book time off work and a hotel…’

This should be a period of excitement for Wrexham fans, buzzing at the prospect of a journey – albeit a rather long one – to face a recent Premier League side to kick off the season.

Instead, fans have been left baffled by the complete lack of communication from the club.

We looked through every club’s opening-day fixtures and pinpointed when away tickets were first placed on sale.

Wrexham are one of just two Championship clubs yet to release ticket information for the opening day, with Sheffield Wednesday the other.

The Owls are enduring a nightmarish summer due to financial problems, and seeing them behind in terms of ticket releases isn’t a huge surprise.

Wrexham have been getting most things right off the pitch under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, though, and many would have expected much more communication to this point.

Fans have to think about travel and hotels alongside their tickets and are ultimately left in limbo until Wrexham confirm ticketing information.

That announcement will surely come this week, but what should be an exciting build-up has now been mired in confusion as fans wait for tickets to go on sale.

When did Wrexham’s away tickets first go on sale last year?

Most clubs released their away tickets last week, with some even earlier.

We looked back at when Wrexham confirmed ticketing information for the first away game of last season, at Bolton Wanderers.

That was the second game of the campaign, with Wrexham making the journey to Bolton on August 18.

Wrexham announced that tickets for that game would go on sale on Friday, July 26.

That date has now passed this year, despite the first away fixture of this season coming a week earlier than last season.

Wrexham should be backed admirably by travelling fans on the opening day of the season, but this situation must be resolved as quickly as possible, with the opening day now looming.
