Wrexham fans simply can’t agree after new League One prediction, one factor will be key to promotion

Wrexham are aiming to secure a third straight promotion in the 2024/25 season.

The Red Dragons have gone from strength to strength since Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds bought the club in 2021.

Wrexham ended a 15-year stint in the National League and secured promotion to League Two in the 2022/23 season.

Phil Parkinsonโ€™s men then finished second in the fourth tier last term and are back in League One for the first time since it was rebranded in the early 2000s.

Competing in the third tier alongside former Premier League sides such as Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town is now Wrexhamโ€™s most difficult task to date but so far, they have largely exceeded expectations.

Before the current campaign got underway, Wrexham were predicted to finish 20th in League One by Opta.

Wrexham fans split after League One prediction

Now, Opta have released a fresh predicted League One table this week with Birmingham City and Wycombe Wanderers backed to take the top two spots

Wrexham, meanwhile, have been moved up to 7th place in the predicted table.

While it is a big jump from where they were predicted to finish in August, Wrexham fans have been left split over the prediction and have taken to X/Twitter to share their thoughts on where they think their side will actually finish.

One fan wrote: โ€œWe finish third, tie on the road and win at home in the first round of the playoffs, then win the playoffs finale at Wembley, and set an English football record by promoting three seasons in a row.โ€

Another added: โ€œIโ€™m happy if we avoid relegation,โ€ with a third stating: โ€œHome form should be enough to maintain play-off place. Canโ€™t see Bolton finishing third.โ€

A fourth Wrexham fan wrote: โ€œThat was my prediction, outside play-offs and I think currently Iโ€™m sticking with that. If they pull off two big signings in January then we can get into the top six and higher, however.

A fifth added: โ€œPlay-offs seem realistic, top two not so much to be honest. Would be big finishing top six.โ€

Another stated: โ€œ7th would be a terrific finish considering we were playing Dorking and Wealdstone two short years ago.โ€

A seventh Wrexham fan wrote: โ€œIโ€™m not convinced enough by Bolton and Lincoln to finish that high, and Stockport wonโ€™t finish as low as 11th. I think weโ€™ll finish 5th or 6th now hopefully.โ€

What Wrexham must improve to secure promotion

While fan verdict is mixed over where Wrexham will end 2024/25, it is clear their promotion chances will improve if one thing changes.

Parkinsonโ€™s men have secured the most points in League One this season when playing at home (19).

But they have won just twice on the road in the current campaign โ€“ dropping points in six fixtures already.

But with Wrexham now set to play three games in a row at the Racecourse Ground, starting with the meeting against Exeter City on Saturday, they should be able to put together a tidy run of form and put pressure on the top two sides.
