Deciding the main reason behind Wrexham’s incredible rise through the EFL can be difficult, with so many different people to thank, but one surprising aspect has been overlooked.
Wrexham can sit back and relax for the next few weeks as other teams compete in the League One play-offs, having secured their path to the Championship through automatic promotion.
Their second-placed finish helped Wrexham make EFL history with a third-successive promotion, and they now face the tantalising prospect of trying to do it all again in the second tier.
While many will thank Phil Parkinson, or point to the financial backing of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, it might not be a person at all that was key to the success achieved this season.

Wrexham were unbeaten in their black kit
Funnily enough, it could all be down to kit choices as to why Wrexham went up in the end. OK, maybe it’s not the be all and end all, but there is a fascinating statistic that suggests the Red Dragons were more formidable than ever when wearing their black kit this season.
That’s right, Wrexham’s all-black kit didn’t just look great, the team never even lost wearing it this season across the seven games it featured.
Wrexham won five and drew two games in the black kit, scoring nine goals and conceding just four.
Meanwhile, the gold kit produced five wins, one draw, and two defeats, with 11 goals scored and four goals conceded.
Funnily enough, when Wrexham wore their normal red kit during away games, they struggled more than ever. In those matches, the Red Dragons won just one game, drawing three and losing four.
There may be nothing in this statistic, of course. It could just be pure coincidence, but there’s also the idea that mentality and connotations around certain colours playing a part in the psychological approach of any person, especially an athlete.
Perhaps the black kit struck fear into Wrexham’s opponents and made the players feel invincible?
While we wait for confirmation of the kits for next season, we simply don’t know if another all-black kit will be used. After reading this information, maybe the kit designers will think twice about scrapping the black kit.

Wrexham’s kit is helping push the club forward in other ways
We already know that Wrexham are set for a big windfall thanks to promotion when it comes to EFL funding and TV revenue.
But, did you know that Wrexham’s kit sponsor is already bringing them big money? In fact, the sponsorship deal with United Airlines is thought to be at a Premier League level of income already.
That all stands the Red Dragons in good stead for next season, when they will quietly (or not so quietly) be hoping to launch another surprise promotion push.
If Wrexham can recruit shrewdly over the summer, they’ve every chance of causing an upset in the second tier in 2025/26.
