Wrexham are bidding to move further clear in the League One promotion places as they travel to face Exeter City at St James Park.

Phil Parkinson will know that his side face a tough encounter despite securing a 3-0 win over the Grecians earlier in the season at the Racecourse Ground where Ollie Palmer was among the scorers.

Wrexham are facing Exeter at the worst time with the hosts currently unbeaten in six games and will prove to be a stubborn outfit for the Red Dragons to break down.

Gary Caldwell has identified Wrexham’s threat following the previous clash but Exeter will be without their manager for the crucial League One clash.

Exeter manager Gary Caldwell suspended for Wrexham clash

Caldwell will not be on the touchline for Wrexham’s trip to Exeter after being sent off in Exeter’s previous 0-0 draw at Lincoln City.

It was the second dismissal this season for Caldwell, who also saw red in his side’s 2-1 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers back in January.

As per BBC Sport, Exeter assistant manager Kevin Nicholson did not believe his gaffer deserved to see a red card brandished.

Nicholson stated: “We scored a perfectly good goal that was taken away. The manager went to speak to the fourth official to ask why it was taken away.

“”He didn’t swear, didn’t push anybody, didn’t point any fingers and then the ref came over and sent him off for persistent infringement of which he hadn’t been warned about and he certainly hadn’t had a yellow card up until that point.”

Wrexham need to be aware of Demetri Mitchell’s good form

Exeter’s versatile star Demetri Mitchell has been in excellent recent form having scored two in his last four games and helping his side to four clean sheets in their last five outings.

Mitchell can play in a variety of positions for Exeter and will need to be handled by the likes of Max Cleworth and Eoghan O’Connell should he continue in a more advanced role/

Parkinson may opt to make a change in midfield with the creativity of Elliot Lee an option against such a resilient defence where chances may be at a premium.

Whatever the Wrexham boss decides he knows that three points are going to have to be well and truly earned at St James Park despite the absence of Caldwell in the dug out.
