A new report has revealed that Wrexham’s average attendances at the Racecourse Ground are higher than the average attendances in the Saudi Pro League, despite the vast array of stars playing over there.
The buzz around Wrexham has never been bigger, largely thanks to the work of co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney over the past few years. The Hollywood duo have injected new life into the third oldest football club in the world, which has seen the Reds promoted to the fourth tier of English football for the first time in 15 years.
The impact of Disney+ documentary Welcome to Wrexham cannot be understated either. The docuseries has helped bring in new fans from across the globe, and with the second season currently airing, Wrexham’s global popularity is only going to grow even further.

Wrexham has higher average home attendances than the Saudi Pro League
However, the local community is the lifeblood of the club, and followers of the Reds are some of the most dedicated and committed fans in the country.
Interest in the club has sky-rocketed under Rob and Ryan’s ownership, which has brought record-breaking attendances at the Racecourse over the past year.
In fact, Wrexham’s average home attendances are better than the Saudi Pro League. Over the past year, the Saudi Professional Football League has grown exponentially, which has seen unprecedented levels of spending attract some of the game’s biggest names.
The likes of Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema have joined clubs backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. However, average attendances are still less than Wrexham’s.
According to a report by Bloomberg, the Saudi Professional Football League has so far averaged 8,500 spectators per game this season. They add that while that’s a 24% increase from last year, it’s still lower than the average for Wrexham, who until recently were in the fifth tier of English football.

Wrexham’s average attendances increase in 2023/24 season
Wrexham’s highest attendance last season was 10,162, which was a promotion-clinching 3-1 win over Boreham Wood in the last game of the season.
The Red’s average home league attendance last season was 9,973, while a total of 9,511 gathered to watch Wrexham AFC women take on Connah’s Quay Nomads to become the Genero Adran North Champions.
This season, Wrexham’s average home attendance is well over 10,000, with three attendances already passing the 10,200 mark.
However, that’s still a way off the Racecourse’s largest ever attendance, which occurred in 1957. 34,445 people gathered to witness an FA Cup fourth-round tie against Manchester United, although that was mostly standing.
