Wrexham have not got off to the greatest of starts this season in the Championship, as they currently occupy 16th in the division.
The Red Dragons moved away from the relegation zone with Wrexham’s first win in 55 years over Norwich City last weekend, as they earned consecutive victories in the second tier for only the third time in their history.
Phil Parkinson will not be too worried about promotion to the Premier League this campaign, despite spending £33 million this summer in the transfer market, focusing more on securing their status in this division for next season.

However, former Wrexham star Ben Foster has laid out the timeline for when Premier League fans could see the Welsh club competing in the top flight.

Ben Foster promises Wrexham will be playing Premier League football within three years
The former Wrexham keeper was crucial as they climbed out of the National League, on the first of their three consecutive promotions, before he retired early into their League Two campaign.
Foster has been a huge fan of Wrexham ever since he wore the goalkeeper jersey of the club, and he believes they will continue their rise through the divisions even if it is not this season.
Speaking to Sam Allardyce on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, he said: “They’ll be fine. They’ve signed some really good players and Championship-proven players. They won at the weekend, a great win, so I think they’ll be fine; they’ll get into a little rhythm, and even come January, they’ll give it another go.
“It won’t be long until Wrexham are in the Premier League, I promise you. I’m going to give it two or three years, not even as far as five years; it will be two or three years.”

Wrexham are a long way off promotion to the Premier League
It is unlikely Wrexham will earn promotion to the Premier League this campaign following their slow start to the Championship, picking up seven points from their opening six fixtures.
While it is not impossible should they go on a run, as it is still early in the season, they will need to find consistency, something they have lacked, as they are yet to win at home.
This is due to how competitive it is to reach the play-offs, as seen by the need to have at least 68 points by the end of the campaign, with this being the lowest tally in the last five seasons to finish sixth in the Championship.
| Season | Sixth Place Club | Points Tally | Were They Promoted? |
| 2024/25 | Bristol City | 68 | No |
| 2023/24 | Norwich City | 73 | No |
| 2022/23 | Sunderland | 69 | No |
| 2021/22 | Luton Town | 75 | No |
| 2020/21 | Bournemouth | 77 | No |
It is more than likely that you would need at least 70 points to reach the top six of the division before the play-offs, and while it is possible, it will require Parkinson to gel his 13 summer signings together quickly, address their defensive issues, and finish above sixth in the Championship.
This may explain Foster’s belief that a couple of seasons of similar investment from Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac may see them launch a more sustained challenge for promotion.
