Wrexham have lost their opening two games of the season, and if this poor start continues much longer, manager Phil Parkinson could well come under the spotlight.

Phil Parkinson is undeniably a Wrexham legend. The experienced manager has guided the club to three-straight promotions, with Wrexham now playing in the second tier of English football for the first time in more than 40 years. But this season has started slowly.

Wrexham lost 2-1 against Southampton on the opening day, then lost their follow-up game 3-2 at home to West Brom. And recently, Wrexham Insider revealed Wrexham’s stance on Phil Parkinson’s future despite this poor start.

We understand that owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac are not considering a change in manager any time soon, but that if the poor form continues up until the new year, then there may well have to be difficult conversations had regarding Parkinson’s future.

Phil Parkinson discusses tough start for Wrexham

Speaking to Leader Live ahead of the Championship clash against Sheffield Wednesday at the Racecourse this weekend, Parkinson has discussed his side’s poor start, and he’s reminded fans of a previously tough time in charge of the club way back in the National League.

Parkinson explained: “We’ve had moments in all the divisions and had setbacks along the way. People think the three promotions we have had, we have had praise and plaudits all the time but we have had setbacks, and you come through those periods.

“I think my second year in the National League, we didn’t start great. I remember getting beat at Chesterfield on a Tuesday night after drawing at Yeovil.

“The start of the League Two season, we conceded five at home to MK Dons and then five against Swindon. I remember similar meetings then. We had to find the solutions and that’s what myself and the staff are good at.

“It is finding solutions with the players as well. It’s a collective thing, it’s not just about us.”

Wrexham’s next five fixtures in the Championship, three are very winnable

The Championship is never an easy ride. Arguably there isn’t a single easy game across the course of the season but Wrexham certainly have one or two kind of fixtures on their way.

Next up, Wrexham play Wednesday in North Wales and ahead of the game it has been revealed that Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles is injured and the crisis club only has youth goalkeepers to call upon.

Then, Wrexham play Preston in the Carabao Cup second round before returning to Championship action away at The Den to play Millwall. After that comes a two-week break before Wrexham host QPR then travel to Norwich City and return back to the Racecourse to play Derby County.

Home games against the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, QPR and Derby County certainly feel winnable and if Parkinson can make the Racecourse a fortress then it will be a vital source of points as the Dragons look to beat the drop. But form away from home could prove tricky.

Firstly though, Parkinson will just be focused on the Sheffield Wednesday game and on doing whatever business he can do before the September 1st deadline.
