Wrexham midfielder Ollie Rathbone shares how he really feels about Rotherham United ahead of reunion

Wrexham are set to face off with Ollie Rathbone’s former club, Rotherham United, on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Dragons earned a massive 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town earlier this week but must now switch their attention toward putting their home form right.

Surprisingly, given how they started 2024/25, Wrexham are now unbeaten in their last four away League One meetings.

However, their record at the Racecourse Ground has become slightly concerning, failing to win any of their last four in all competitions.

Wrexham host Rotherham in a 3pm kick-off on Saturday and, on paper, should be favourites to pick up the three points against a team who go into the weekend sat 14th in the third tier.

If the Red Dragons are to pick up a win and potentially overtake Wycombe Wanderers in the table, it’s likely we will need to see another starring display from Ollie Rathbone.

Wrexham midfielder Ollie Rathone shares verdict on Rotherham United

Rathbone is becoming Wrexham’s most important player following his summer transfer from Rotherham, which was a club-record deal at the time.

Three goals and two assists in the last 10 League One outings from the 28-year-old have helped the Hollywood-owned club secure some crucial points, even when they haven’t been at their best.

Now, the midfielder is likely to start his first game against Rotherham following his summer switch on March 8th.

Ahead of the match, as per Leader Live, Rathbone has been discussing his former club and the ‘huge respect’ he has for them.

He said: “I had three great years there and I loved playing for the club, I had a great relationship with the fans.

“I’ve got huge respect for the club but it’s business as usual come Saturday.”

Ollie Rathbone on Wrexham promotion

Though no goal contribution was forthcoming, Rathbone once again impressed during Wrexham’s win over Huddersfield on Tuesday.

That victory against a fellow top-six side ensured the Welsh outfit were able to keep the pressure on Wycombe going into the latest round of games.

On the importance of that win, Rathbone commented: “I think it’s a bit of a statement. You need to win games like that.

“When you look back at the end of the season, hopefully if we’ve achieved what we want to then you look back at night’s like that and think that’s where we kind of laid a marker down and got an important win.

“But nothing is won until May so we’ll just keep cracking on. It’s been a fantastic season so far and we’re desperate to make it special.”
