The Wrexham summer exodus has got underway with one player now confirming that he’ll be leaving the club this summer.
Wrexham look set to undergo some rather drastic changes to the playing squad this summer, as Phil Parkinson readies his team for the Championship.
There’s several Wrexham players out of contract in 2025 and there’s several others who simply look set to be sold on, like Paul Mullin and likely Ollie Palmer too.
Meanwhile, Parkinson wants to sign some experienced Championship players in the summer and so the Wrexham squad as we know it right now could be very different when the 2025/26 season starts.
Owner Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will surely back Parkinson in the summer transfer window and we could see the Dragons smash their transfer record yet again.

Mark Howard announces he’s leaving Wrexham this summer
Ahead of the EFL’s contract renewal deadline of May 17th, goalkeeper Mark Howard has now announced that he’ll be leaving Wrexham as a free agent this summer. The 38-year-old joined as a free agent in 2022 and has since made 50 league appearances, including 10 in the 2024/25 campaign.
Howard featured heavily in the 2022/23 National League season and featured in all three promotion campaigns. Posting on Instagram, Howard thanked the owners and the fans for his time at the club, also revealing that he’ll carry on playing.
James McClean was quick to react to Howard’s post, writing: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to share a dressing room with you mate, some man for one.”
Do Wrexham need to sign a new goalkeeper after Mark Howard announces exit?
Along with Howard, young goalkeepers Liam Hall and Bradley Foster are out of contract at the Racecourse this summer, and so Parkinson will see his goalkeeping department halved this summer.
His remaining goalkeepers for next season are no.1 Arthur Okonkwo, no.2 Callum Burton, and Luke McNicholas.
But for Parkinson, if Okonkwo were to pick up an injury next season then it would leave him with two very Championship inexperienced goalkeepers in Burton and McNicholas, which would prove risky.
It might be an idea to sign a goalkeeper like Howard with experience of playing in the Football League and in the Championship. There’d no doubt be suitable goalkeeper somewhere for Parkinson to bring in, even if just for a season.
