Wrexham have been on an incredible journey since they were bought by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac; however, they have had to say farewell to some of their favourite players along the way.
The Red Dragons achieved a historic three consecutive promotions from the National League to the Championship under Phil Parkinson.
However, in preparation for the Championship, the club made 13 summer signings, seeing Wrexham spend £33 million as they looked to bring quality to the club at this level.
This meant there would be a few casualties, and players would have to leave the club to allow for these signings and to balance the books, yet one player who was released from the club has detailed his exit from the Welsh side.
Steven Fletcher was ‘begged’ to stay at Wrexham by Rob Mac before being released
The striker was released from Wrexham this summer ahead of the club’s first campaign in the second tier for 43 years, with Steven Fletcher being linked to Hibernian since this decision.
However, it has recently been reported that Fletcher is considering retirement after this rumour that he may have one final stint in Scottish football.
The 38-year-old was admired by Wrexham’s Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac and he has now spoken to The Warm-Up Podcast about his exit from the team.
He said: “Rob loved his golf as much as I did, so he invited me to play in the summer there. We went to Vegas after getting promoted.
“After Vegas, all the boys flew home, but me and Elliot Lee flew to LA to meet the owner to play a few rounds of golf with him. In the buggy, he begged me to stay, but two days later I got released.”

Steven Fletcher’s impact at Wrexham
The former Scotland international played a key role in two of Wrexham’s promotions, as he joined the club when they were in League Two.
Fletcher accepted his position as elder statesman, usually playing a decisive role off the bench as a super-sub across the two seasons, scoring several dramatic late winners.

In his time at the Red Dragons, he scored 16 goals in 77 appearances in all competitions.
The veteran attacker made it clear that the decision to leave the club was not his decision with an emotional social media post to the Wrexham fans, as he was not offered a contract extension to remain playing under Phil Parkinson.
