Cardiff City and Wrexham are trading places ahead of next season, much to the delight of the buoyant Dragons faithful.

Cardiff City are being relegated from the Championship after finishing dead last in the 2024/25 campaign. Meanwhile Wrexham have been promoted from League One, finishing in 2nd place of the table and earning a third-straight promotion under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

And already we’re seeing some exciting new names being linked with a summer move to the Racecourse in what promises to be an enthralling summer transfer window. Although, manager Phil Parkinson has said Wrexham won’t sign any superstars this summer.

Instead the club looks set to emulate the transfer strategy that has secured them back-to-back-to-back promotions: signing players with a bit more experience, and spending their share of money when they feel necessary.

One player who Wrexham could spend money on this summer is Callum Robinson.

Cardiff City fans fume at Wrexham target Callum Robinson

Not only are Cardiff City fans fuming about their relegation from the second tier. They’re also fuming after a number of players were absent from their final game of the season away at Norwich City which they eventually lost 4-2. Among those were Anwar El Ghazi, Yakou Meite, Dimitrios Goutas, and Robinson.

BBC Sport report that Robinson was actually in attendance at Aston Villa’s game at home to Fulham in the Premier League. Robinson started his career at Villa and made four Premier League appearances for the club between 2013 and 2016 before leaving for Preston North End.

Wrexham transfer target Robinson missed the last four games of the season due to injury. BBC Sport add: “There is no suggestion that Robinson or the other players broke any rules – they were free to do what they liked on Saturday – but fans can justifiably question their judgement.”

Wrexham move for Callum Robinson would rub salt in Cardiff City wounds

Cardiff City haven’t played in the third tier in more than 20 years. Now they’re watching on as Wrexham’s unstoppable rise continues and they might yet watch Robinson make the move to the Racecourse this summer.

Robinson once broke Sheffield United’s transfer record and he’d cost Wrexham a fair fee, given that he remains under contract until the summer of 2027. But it looks like the Bluebirds will see a mass exodus of players leaving this summer, Robinson likely being one of them given his quality at Championship level.

Despite Cardiff’s torrid season, Robinson scored 12 goals in 34 Championship games and could quickly become the target of a number of second tier sides, not just Wrexham.
