Wrexham signing Josh Windass once scored from the halfway line

Wrexham have been crying out for a ‘maverick’ type player in the middle of the park and Windass will certainly provide that creative spark.

The 31-year-old scored 13 goals from midfield for Sheffield Wednesday but one in particular stood out to the world as he struck in a Championship clash with Derby County.

Wednesday were 1-0 up when Windass picked the ball up from well inside his own half and spotted the opposition keeper off his line.

His range of passing and vision is something that Wrexham fans will look forward to witnessing at the Racecourse Ground next season and it was on full display as Windass struck the ball over the keeper’s head and into the net.

The Red Dragons host his former side on August 23, whilst Derby visit North Wales on September 27 and all eyes will be on whether Windass can replicate his magical moment there.

Josh Windass provides Phil Parkinson with versatility in his Wrexham attack

Wrexham can use Windass in different ways with his ability to find pockets of space all over the pitch and arrive late into the box.

His preferred position at Wednesday was in the number ten role but he also has experience playing as a second striker.

Parkinson could use him in front of two more defensive midfielders, George Thomason has arrived at the club and Matty James looks set for another key role in the side this season.

However, Windass could also be used to support one of Ryan Hardie or Sam Smith in attack – the manager will have to assess what is best against certain opposition.
