Josh Windass becomes the latest player to arrive at Wrexham, having joined on a free transfer following his exit at Sheffield Wednesday.

Wrexham take their summer signings tally up to five with the signing of Josh Windass. The experienced Championship striker joins on a free transfer and signs a three-year contract at the Racecourse, having handed in his notice at crisis club Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the summer.

It’s a very strong signing for Wrexham and one that has got the fans talking online. Phil Parkinson has signed a striker who scored 13 goals in the Championship last season, including some incredible goals from range.

It takes Wrexham’s summer signings tally up to five, with the likes of Ryan Hardie, Danny Ward, Liberato Cacace and George Thomason having now signed for the club.

Following the pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand, transfer activity at the club has really picked up and it doesn’t look set to stop there with rumours that Lewis O’Brien is now set for a medical with Wrexham.

It looks as though Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac are forking out £5m to sign O’Brien. Windass though costs absolutely nothing and he could well prove to be the signing of the summer not only at Wrexham but in the Championship too.

Players send messages to Josh Windass after Wrexham transfer confirmed

Having been around the block, playing for the likes of Rangers, Wigan Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday among others in his career, Windass has played with a whole heap of players. And many of them responded to his Instagram post confirming his arrival in North Wales.

One such player was former Swansea City man George Byers, who played with Windass at Wednesday. He simply commented: “Joshy Boy”, whilst others like Robert Snodgrass, Shea Charles and Pierce Charles who were Wednesday teammates last season, all reacted positively.

Boxer Mick Conlan also posted. He joked for James McClean to give Windass a ‘lively Irish welcome’, which the Wrexham captain replied: “Always bud.”

After Lewis O’Brien and Josh Windass, where will Wrexham target next?

O’Brien has been a target for Wrexham throughout the summer window and it now looks as though they’ve overcome the wages obstacle and O’Brien could well be the next player to arrive this summer.

After Wrexham signed Thomason from Bolton Wanderers, the midfield department now looks set to be bolstered relatively well and so far and so Parkinson can turn his attentions elsewhere on the pitch.

In Windass and Hardie, Wrexham now have two proven Championship strikers, though another striker signing cannot be ruled out with Wrexham now being linked with a move for Kieffer Moore at Sheffield United.

And then with Cacace arriving at the left-back, that position, which was previously a bit of a problem position for Parkinson, now looks set to be bolstered for the next few years at least.

Attentions may well turn to the centre-back department, with no new centre-backs having arrived this summer despite links to a number, including the likes of Harry Darling who joined Norwich City, and Johnny Evans, who remained at Manchester United in a coaching role.

Of all positions on the pitch, it looks like a new centre-back may become the next priority for Wrexham this summer.
