Wrexham and Birmingham City are ready for battle once again as the two teams prepare for life in the Championship.

It isn’t often you see Sky Sports dedicating a whole hour of build-up ahead of a League One game.

In fact, it may have never even happened before Wrexham travelled to take on Birmingham City in September 2024.

Wrexham had made a blistering start to the season, Birmingham were the big-spending title favourites, and Hollywood influence made the first meeting between the two sides a hotly anticipated affair.

Tom Brady jetted in to watch Birmingham while Rob McElhenney cheered on Wrexham, with David Beckham even making an appearance.

Wrexham took one point from two games against Birmingham last season but won automatic promotion alongside the Blues, meaning they will lock horns again in the Championship.

Birmingham have just signed Wrexham target Tommy Doyle, and the battle between the two sides looks set to ramp up after promotion.

Season four of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has just finished, showcasing Wrexham’s third straight promotion.

Ryan Reynolds praised McElhenney’s passionate speech before Wrexham beat Blackpool as the hit documentary show enjoyed another strong series.

Birmingham City’s own documentary series is launching this summer, with Amazon Prime hosting Built In Birmingham: Brady & The Blues on August 1.

The show will offer a behind-the-scenes look at Birmingham’s promotion-winning campaign and the buzz created from Brady’s involvement.

Sadly, the show is also bound to show Birmingham’s 3-1 win over Wrexham and delve into Brady’s social media battle with McElhenney.

McElhenney has taken to social media to offer his thoughts, suggesting that the show looks great.

McElhenney knows all about these shows from his time with Wrexham, and he appears to be impressed with what Birmingham are offering – but he wants to see Wrexham beat Birmingham in season two.

‘This show looks _______ great,’ said McElhenney, before adding that he couldn’t wait to watch Wrexham beat Birmingham in the next season of the show.

When do Wrexham play Birmingham City this season?

Both sides winning promotion tees up some fascinating meetings in the Championship.

Wrexham’s Championship fixture list emerged two weeks ago, and the first meeting with Birmingham comes on October 4.

Wrexham will be at home for the first meeting this time, and will head away to face Birmingham on April 11, 2026.

That will be in the home stretch of the Championship campaign, and Wrexham would love to finish the season with a flourish.

Birmingham are bound to run a second season of their documentary series, and McElhenney will hope for something to shout about upon its release.
