A striker is on the agenda for Wrexham this summer and Phil Parkinson should revive his interest in a ‘fantastic finisher’.

Wrexham are looking to bolster their squad with serious quality after winning promotion to League One.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds will arm Phil Parkinson with a healthy budget to make improvements, including at goalkeeper, centre-back, left-back, central midfield and striker.

The Reds have already aimed to sign a centre-back but their attempts to sign Wigan Athletic’s Jason Kerr were thwarted as he signed a new contract with the Latics.

Parkinson is also looking to bolster his attack, as while they currently have seven strikers on the books, that hasn’t stopped them ‘monitoring’ Loughgall goal machine Benji Magee.

It isn’t the first time that Parkinson has looked at a talent in the Northern Ireland Football League having previously courted striker Ronan Hale, a player Wrexham should revive their interest in this summer.

Wrexham should revive interest in Ronan Hale

In January, Wrexham were one of several EFL clubs monitoring the situation of Cliftonville striker Ronan Hale.

Cliftonville manager Jim Magilton has since hailed the ‘magic’ in the striker’s boots which created history as they won their first Irish Cup in 45 years.

Describing it as the greatest victory of his footballing life, Hale’s 21 goals and eight assists in all competitions helped drag them to glory.

With speculation intensifying that he is set for a move across the water this summer, Wrexham should jump to the front of the queue and snap him up.

Dubbed by his manager as a “fantastic finisher”, the former Birmingham City striker is lethal when the opportunities arise and such a clinical edge, alongside goal machine Paul Mullin, would be desired.

The 25-year-old fits the profile of the striker they’re looking for as he’s physically strong, great at moving in behind and quality in front of goal.

Wrexham must offload before they can sign a striker

Frustratingly, Wrexham must offload some of their strikers before bringing another through the door.

The Reds have already offered 37-year-old Steven Fletcher a new short-term contract while the likes of Sam Dalby, Billy Waters and Jake Bickerstaff won’t cut it in League One.

If Parkinson can offload the latter trio, either on loan or permanently, he will create space in his squad to bring in a more proven striker.

Although Hale is unproven in English football, having spent most of his career in Northern Ireland, he has previously scored twice in six Europa Conference League qualifier games during his time at Larne FC.

Add to that his exceptional goal record of 50 in 80 for Cliftonville, and the former Republic of Ireland under-21 star looks ready to take League One by storm.

And having been described as the “complete striker” by assistant manager Gerard Lyttle, insisting he could play at a higher level, it would be some coup if Wrexham were to capture the talented marksman.
