Wrexham are continuing preparations for their Championship season opener against Southampton.

Phil Parkinson has a number of injury worries ahead of the clash at St Mary’s Stadium with Ollie Rathbone and new signing George Thomason ruled out.

Jay Rodriguez is also unavailable to feature against his former side but Parkinson will be relieved that he still has a huge squad to choose from.

Championship rules state a 25-man squad must be named at the end of the transfer window and one Wrexham star has got to be considering his future given the club’s transfer activity this summer.

Elliot Lee must avoid being frozen out at Wrexham

Departures are inevitable in the final few weeks of the transfer window given that the club currently has over 30 first-team players on their books.

Elliot Lee could leave Wrexham this summer as part of those departures and the midfielder would be another fan favourite leaving the club.

Given everything that Lee has achieved at the club, he would be wise to explore a move away from the club and secure a transfer as quickly as possible.

The 30-year-old will be looking at Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer being frozen out of the side last season and will want to be playing regular first-team football.

Parkinson can name up to nine substitutes for the clash with Southampton and should Lee find himself out of the squad, that would be a good indicator to sort his future swiftly.

Which clubs could Elliot Lee move to?

Lee was Wrexham’s top scorer last season in League One, proving that he has the quality to play at that level.

He had spells at Luton Town and Barnsley in his career before joining the Red Dragons and could explore moves back to his former clubs.

Given his creativity and wonderful relationship with Mullin, a move to Wigan Athletic could also be on the cards.

Ryan Lowe will want to give his new striker all of the tools to succeed at the Latics and bringing in a player that knows his movements and patterns of play inside out would be hugely beneficial to the side.
