Championship club may have just given Wrexham a massive boost in their hunt for League One promotion

Wrexham are aiming to make it three promotions on the spin in the 2024/25 season.

It’s pretty amazing that the Red Dragons were still plying their trade in the National League in 2023 but could now be just five months away from a place in the Championship.

Wrexham’s chances of being relegated were high ahead of 2024/25 getting underway, with Opta giving them a 37 percent chance of going down.

Even after an excellent start to the current campaign, the Welsh outfit were still not expected to be competing for promotion.

In late September, Opta predicted Wrexham to finish ninth in League One despite their superb home and defensive records.

With the halfway point of the season now upon us, Phil Parkinson’s men have firmly blown those expectations away but still face a tough battle to earn a top-two place.

West Bromwich Albion may have just given Wrexham big promotion boost

Going into the latest round of fixtures, Wrexham are third in the League One table with 48 points secured from 24 games.

This is, of course, an excellent return for a side who were playing non-league football just two seasons ago.

But with a chance of automatic promotion still on the cards, fans would no doubt love to see their club pip Wycombe Wanderers to second place.

Now, Wycombe have just seen their best-eleven weakened thanks to Championship outfit, West Bromwich Albion.

The Chairboys signed Caleb Taylor on loan from the Baggies over the summer and he’s since played 19 League One matches for them and completed 90 minutes in every fixture since August 21st.

However, Wycombe have now confirmed the centre-back, who they labelled ‘a colossus’ has returned to West Brom:

He will be a major miss for Wycombe and his absence, Wrexham fans will be hoping, could see their form take a dip in the coming weeks.

League One table and Wrexham fixtures compared to Wycombe

Wycombe currently occupy top spot in the third tier, two points above Wrexham going into Saturday.

But games in hand mean the top-three could look very different by the end of this month.
