Wrexham would be foolish not to steal 39-goal striker target away from League One rivals in January

Wrexham have been linked with a plethora of strikers in the build-up to the 2025 January transfer window.

The Red Dragons smashed their transfer record over the summer to sign Modou Faal for £590,000.

However, the former West Bromwich Albion centre-forward is struggling to leave his mark in Wales and is yet to find the back of the net in the league.

Now, the club look set to return to the transfer market to reinforce their struggling frontline this month.

Joe Gelhardt and Patrick Bamford have been linked to Wrexham recently, both of whom are proven at a higher level.

Plymouth Argyle striker Ryan Hardie is of interest to the Red Dragons as well but his form hasn’t been amazing in 2024/25.

Now though, Wrexham’s League One rivals may have already identified an excellent striker target they could swoop for.

Wrexham should rival Huddersfield and Charlton for Kion Etete

The battle for promotion in League One this season is very tight at present, with Huddersfield Town just five points off Wrexham with two games in hand.

The Terriers, along with Charlton Athletic, have now been linked with a move for centre-forward Kion Etete.

Journalist Darren Witcoop reported the pair’s interest this week and while the player has had injury problems this season, he’s now on his way back to full fitness.

While Wrexham are not credited with an interest in the player by Witcoop, he would be the perfect addition to their squad.

Why Wrexham should swoop for Kion Etete

Born in Derby, Etete was snapped up by Tottenham Hotspur as a youngster, going on to score 10 and assist three in 27 matches for their U21 team.

He was sent out on loan a couple of times before the Lilywhites opted to sell him to Cardiff City in 2022 for around £500,000.

Etete has since played 56 times for the Welsh outfit and scored six goals, seeing his time at the club hampered by injury.

All told, the Englishman has made 148 career appearances, scored 39 goals and provided 11 assists.

However, the number nine is still only 23 and clearly has a lot of potential that’s yet to be fully realised.

A step down to League One and more regular playing time could be exactly what he needs, however, and as Wrexham want a striker with Championship experience, he seems like a solid fit.

Though no transfer fee is mentioned in the above report, it’s unlikely he will cost too much either given he hasn’t played since last term and is out of contract in the summer.
