Opta predict Wrexham 2024/25 League One finish, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney won’t be happy

Wrexham have enjoyed a great start to the 2024/25 League One season under Phil Parkinson.

The Red Dragons have now won back-to-back promotions under Phil Parkinson and are currently fighting it out in League One for the first time in their history.

Since their promotion to the third tier, Wrexham have been in superb form and are currently sat top of the division.

Wrexham beat Crawley Town 2-1 in their last outing, leaving them level on points with Birmingham City, who do have a game in hand.

On the whole though, even if they get knocked off top spot in the near future, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds are no doubt pleased with how the season has gone so far.

Wrexham face Leyton Orient in their next League One outing, kicking off at 3pm BST on Saturday, September 28th.

Orient are 16th in the division right now and the Welsh outfit are clear favourites to win the game and continue their promotion charge.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney won’t be happy with Opta’s Wrexham prediction

McElhenney was in attendance when Wrexham lost 3-1 to Birmingham City this past Monday.

That was the club’s only league defeat of the campaign so far and the fact it came away from home against one of the promotion favourites this season should give the Welsh side some comfort.

What will not please Wrexham owners McElhenney and Reynolds though, is where Opta have predicted their side to finish the 2024/25 League One season.

Ahead of the latest game week, Opta have predicted Wrexham to go on and earn a total of 69.44 points this season.

That total would only be enough for Parkinson’s men to secure a ninth-place finish, ending 2024/25 outside the play-offs by three points.

Tom Brady’s Birmingham City are, unsurprisingly, predicted to go on and win League One with a points total of 89.91, while Lincoln City will take the second automatic promotion place.

Where Wrexham must improve to win League One promotion

Despite Opta’s prediction, Wrexham have had a largely solid start to the 2024/25 campaign.

However, there are a couple of areas where Parkinson’s men could improve in order to boost their promotion chances.

The main one is their away record so far this season. Prior to the last round of fixtures, Wrexham were leading Manchester City in one impressive statistic.

The Dragons had conceded just seven goals in all domestic competitions when playing at home in 2024.

They, of course, shipped one goal to Crawley on September 21st but they still boast an impressive home record nonetheless.

It is away from the Racecourse where Wrexham have struggled slightly though, dropping four points already this season.

While both those games were tough, Parkinson will no doubt be keen to ensure they start picking up more points on the road.
