Wrexham have moved back into pole position to achieve automatic promotion this season after a gritty 1-0 win over Stockport County.
Phil Parkinson praised Sam Smith for his performance yet again with the striker working relentlessly up top but there was also a stand-out performance from Matty James in midfield.
Stockport boss Dave Challinor was unhappy with Wrexham’s penalty award after the ball struck defender Ibou Touray on the hand following a clash with James McClean.
However, the 1-0 win over Stockport moved Parkinson’s side three points clear of promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers and there is one incredible statistic that has proved the basis of Wrexham’s success this campaign.

Wrexham boast remarkable scoring record in League One
Wrexham may not have been the most prolific in League One this season in front of goal, especially since the turn of the calendar year but the timing of their goals has been crucial.
Wrexham have the most wins by a one goal margin in the division this season with yet another added to their tally against Stockport at the Racecourse Ground.
It also means that the Red Dragons have now scored first in 26 of their 38 league matches this season, providing a huge basis for their success by enabling them to control the game in the way that Parkinson likes.
Getting their noses in front so often has meant the often the side drop a little deeper and with Eoghan O’Connell named as one of the best in the league it is no surprise Wrexham are grinding out vital wins so often.
Wrexham lead the way in clean sheets in League One
Wrexham have the best defensive record in the division this season with just 20 goals conceded, therefore it is no surprise the club lead the way in another crucial statistic.
The Red Dragons have now kept the most clean sheets in the division and if it isn’t the likes of O’Connell and Cleworth keeping the forwards at bay, then goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is proving too good to get past.
Every point and every goal will be pivotal from now until the end of the campaign but if Wrexham can continue with these positive trends of scoring first and keeping clean sheets, they will put themselves firmly in the promotion driving seat.
