The arrival of Ryan Longman at Wrexham is likely to see a few of the Red Dragons’ current stars move on in January.
News broke on January 21st that Wrexham are close to signing Ryan Longman from Hull City after fending off transfer interest from Oxford United.
The player is expected to join in a £500,000 move, which will make him the club’s joint-second most expensive signing of all time.
Ollie Rathbone also cost £500,000 from Rotherham United, while Modou Faal set the Red Dragons back £590,000.
Longman is a very versatile player who will give Phil Parkinson options in various positions.
But Wrexham already have quite a bloated squad – as shown by Anthony Forde not being registered in the first half of 2024/25.
In turn, we have now taken a look at three players who they could sell or loan in January to make room for Longman in their League One squad.

Modou Faal
One of the positions Longman has played in regularly throughout his career is centre-forward – an area Wrexham have a lot of bodies in right now.
Following Jack Marriott’s return from injury, Parkinson has five senior strikers to choose from for two positions.
In turn, given he has only managed 56 minutes of League One football this term anyway, it makes sense for Modou Faal to be loaned out and Longman can then help fill the small gap he will leave.

Luke Bolton
While Longman can provide cover up top, he is most likely to be used as a wing-back in Wrexham’s back-five.
Should he sign, Parkinson will have Ryan Barnett, Sebastian Revan, Luke Bolton, and the Hull man competing for a place on the right-hand side of defence.
As a result, with Bolton only making three appearances – none of which came in the league – in 2024/25, cashing in on him while he still has 18 months left on his contract is wise.
Jacob Mendy
As well as filling in at right-wing-back, Longman can play on the other side of a back-five.
This is bad news for Jacob Mendy, who was named as one of the nine players who could leave Wrexham in January from a report published in late December.
Mendy has only notched 93 minutes of league football this term and as he’s out of contract in June, the Red Dragons should look to recoup some form of transfer fee this month.
