Wrexham fans have been waiting patiently for a new signing in this January transfer window and Phil Parkinson appears to have pounced.

There are now less than two weeks of the January transfer window to go and Wrexham fans have been waiting for movement.

Wrexham are yet to make a January signing but fans have been desperate for new additions – especially after Thursday’s 2-1 defeat at Shrewsbury Town.

Wrexham remain in the automatic promotion hunt in League One but hopes of a third promotion in a row may hinge on new arrivals.

Phil Parkinson tends to leave his January business late though and Wrexham fans may finally have lift-off in this transfer window.

Wrexham on the verge of signing Championship ace

Wrexham want a new striker this month and we have suggested that Parkinson looks into another right wing back too.

The latest speculation suggests that Wrexham may be signing a player who can operate in both roles.

The Telegraph’s Jason Burt reports on Bluesky that Wrexham are set to snap up Ryan Longman from Hull City.

It’s stated that Wrexham have managed to outbid Championship side Oxford United in the race for Longman’s signature.

Oxford were closing in on a deal with Gary Rowett keen to reunite with his former Millwall ace.

Wrexham have now swooped in though and Longman is expected to become Parkinson’s first addition of the January window.

There may still be some work to do though; the Hull Daily Mail believe that Longman is still expected to undergo his Oxford medical.

They do note that Wrexham are trying to hijack the deal but Longman’s move to Oxford isn’t completely dead yet.

It may well be that Longman completes formalities with both clubs before making a final decision, with Wrexham hoping to sway him away from the Kassam Stadium.

Wrexham are to sign Hull City winger Ryan Longman for £500,000. The League One club have out-bid Championship Oxford United who had hoped to sign him and were close to agreeing a deal. Just shows how much money Wrexham are spending! More transfer news on www.telegraph.co.uk/football/

Who is Wrexham target Ryan Longman?

Longman emerged in the Brighton and Hove Albion ranks and actually made his first-team debut with the Seagulls in 2019.

First-team opportunities were understandably hard to come by though and Longman went on to impress with eight goals in 44 League One games on loan at AFC Wimbledon.

Hull City took Longman into the Championship in 2021 before turning the move permanent.

The Argus noted that Hull paid up to £1.5million for Longman, meaning they are now taking a fairly hefty loss by selling him to Wrexham.

Longman has never really become a first-team star for Hull and spent last season on loan at Millwall.

Former Lions boss Rowett praised Longman as an ‘intelligent’ footballer, highlighting his outstanding versatility.

“He’s a young player, I think he’s 22 years old. We bought him in for his versatility. You know he can play left wing-back, right wing-back, he can play up front,” said Rowett.

“He can play anywhere, sort of, in that attacking area. He’s just a really good footballer, he’s an intelligent footballer. I think he’d be a great addition. He’s a good character as well,” he added.

Longman returned to Hull last summer but has only featured in nine Championship games this season, starting six.

Wrexham were actually keen on Longman in July and are now finally close to signing him after all.

Capable of playing as a winger or wing back on either flank as well as up front, Longman will offer great versatility for Wrexham and still has untapped potential at just 24.
