Wrexham are yet to make a January signing but Phil Parkinson will leave it as late as possible in order to land the best deal possible.
Wrexham fans were looking forward to a busy January transfer window.
Perhaps it was the 2-1 away defeat at Barnsley on New Year’s Day; Wrexham have really struggled on the road this season and starting 2025 with a loss was far from ideal.
Nearly three weeks on from that defeat, Wrexham still don’t have new faces in the building.
We took a look at Wrexham’s history and Phil Parkinson does tend to leave his January business late.
Ben Tozer commented on Parkinson’s transfer approach, believing that he waits it out in order to get the best deal possible.

Jack Marriott a perfect reminder for Wrexham fans
That was certainly the case last year as Wrexham pounced for two deadline day signings.
Jack Marriott and Luke Bolton arrived to bolster Parkinson’s squad, joining from Fleetwood Town and Salford City respectively.
Bolton’s move hasn’t quite worked out as planned but Marriott has defied a slow start to become a key Wrexham player.
Marriott endured a difficult start, scoring just once in his first 17 appearances for the club.
Some may have doubted Marriott come the end of the season but Marriott has enjoyed great success this term.
Marriott hit five goals in his first 10 League One games of the season before suffering a broken leg.
January isn’t always the easiest window in which to move on and then hit the ground running.
Marriott needed time to settle and a full pre-season with Wrexham to really show his best form.
That may well be the case again this month; everybody wants key signings to come in and fire Wrexham to promotion but it isn’t always that easy.
Marriott’s rise this season just serves as a reminder that patience is still required with January additions and we may not actually see the very best of any new addition until next season.
Wrexham have enjoyed January success
Look through Parkinson’s January business and you will mostly see success stories.
Ollie Palmer and Tom O’Connor joined in January 2022 and are still important first-team players in League One, summing up what coups they were in the National League.
Callum McFadzean’s move didn’t quite work out but Eoghan O’Connell arrived in January 2023 and is still a regular in the Wrexham back line.
2024 then saw Marriott and Bolton arrive and whilst the latter hasn’t quite had the desired impact, Wrexham have a strong hit rate in January.
Fans may feel a little twitchy given other business, such as Huddersfield Town splashing big money on two strikers, but Parkinson deserves some time, patience and trust to get the best deals over the line.
