Wrexham January additions are now crucial for Phil Parkinson after promotion rivals pull off transfer coup

Wrexham are currently enjoying a break from the hectic schedule of life in League One, having not played since their dramatic 1-0 victory over Peterborough United.

As such, fans attention has turned to the January transfer window. Wrexham want to sign a new striker in January in order to help Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer, who have both struggled for goals in recent weeks.

Wrexham could sell some players in order to raise funds for a marquee signing that would boost promotion hopes. Phil Parkinson’s men currently trail leaders Birmingham City by two points, with the Blues having played two games fewer.

It has also been suggested free agent Martyn Waghorn could join Wrexham to provide more firepower in attack. It’s not just the Red Dragons that are looking to bolster their ranks at the top of League One, however.

Wrexham’s promotion rivals Huddersfield Town sign striker Joe Taylor

There’s currently a four-way battle in League One to earn the two automatic promotion spots. Birmingham City and Wycombe Wanderers currently occupy the top two slots but are being hunted down by Wrexham and Huddersfield Town.

Huddersfield sit just four points behind Wrexham in the table with a game in hand, and have now looked to close the gap by making a significant attacking signing of their own in the January window.

While Joe Taylor was not mentioned on the Wrexham shortlist, he brings with him some vital League One experience that may prove crucial in the race for automatic promotion.

Joe Taylor has proven League One track record – unlike Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer

Despite not scoring in 13 appearances in the Championship for Luton Town this season, Taylor has a proven pedigree of scoring in League One.

The former Peterborough striker enjoyed a stellar 23/24 season with Lincoln that ultimately earned him his move to Championship outfit Luton Town.

Goals win games and with every point precious in the race for promotion, and, worryingly for Wrexham, Huddersfield have now acquired a proven goalscorer at League One level.

While Mullin and Palmer’s work rate and endeavour cannot be faulted, Phil Parkinson needs to bring in someone who can also find the back of the net in the same way Taylor can, or risk losing ground on fellow promotion rivals.
