Wrexham signed several quality players in the summer transfer window but one ‘incredible’ talent stands out as the best, and it’s not George Dobson.
The transfer window may have closed nearly two weeks ago but Wrexham made their ninth signing on Monday, as Phil Parkinson captured free agent Josh Adam after a successful trial.
Adam was one of three midfielders brought to the Racecourse Ground after record-signing Ollie Rathbone and George Dobson.
To many, Dobson has been Wrexham’s best signing in 2024. The former Charlton Athletic captain has slotted into the midfield like a glove and in the win over Reading, Dobson completed more tackles (9) than any other player in the EFL that weekend.
The 26-year-old has been a brilliant addition, mainly for his ferocious tackling and ability to read the game, but there is another player who stands out even more.

The statistics that prove Arthur Okonkwo is Wrexham’s best signing of 2024
Wrexham pulled off the fantastic coup of Arthur Okonkwo on a free transfer after he enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Welsh side last term.
Okonkwo helped the Reds win promotion with his heroic performances between the sticks and now, he’s proving to be the best goalkeeper in League One.
Ali Maxwell from the Not The Top 20 podcast has dissected the statistics behind his ‘incredible’ form having helped Wrexham sit top of the table after five matches.
As per FotMob, the 23-year-old has faced 4.42 Expected Goals on Target and only conceded twice from 16 shots.
When delving even deeper into the statistics, it’s frightening how good he has been, with the youngster ranking third in League One for save percentage (84.6%), second for goals prevented (2) and top for clean sheets (4).
Although Dobson has been brilliant for Wrexham, other midfielders can fill his void, whereas the above metrics show that Okonkwo is irreplaceable to Parkinson.
Arthur Okonkwo deserves a Nigeria call-up
Okonkwo has received praise for his displays after keeping four clean sheets in a row and there’s no wonder national recognition could be on the horizon.
The young goalkeeper – who hails from London – picked up 10 caps for England from under-16 to under-18 level but hasn’t been in the Three Lions set-up for five years.
This has alerted Nigeria, as Okonkwo qualifies to play for the Super Eagles through his Nigerian parents.
Having held multiple rounds of talks with the former Arsenal youth talent, it is possible that he could become Nigeria’s long-term number one.
Okonkwo has previously outlined his ambition to play international football and given their most recent interest, that is made all the more possible with Nigeria instead of England.
