Wrexham now have the option to change formations, if they wish, thanks to Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s backing.
Phil Parkinson became manager of the Red Dragons back in the summer of 2021.
Since his arrival, for the most part, Wrexham have deployed a back-three/five formation.
Typically, it has been a 3-5-2 with two out-and-out strikers – largely Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer until 2024/25.
The most recent season saw a slight tweak with Elliot Lee often deployed up front in a 3-5-1-1.
And the arrival of attacking midfielder Josh Windass this summer means that system could be used again in the Championship.
But a new signing could allow Parkinson the option to move away from his traditional back three/five.

Nathan Broadhead signing gives Wrexham options
A transfer for Ipswich Town player Nathan Broadhead has really picked up pace in the last 24 hours.
It’s being reported that Wrexham will pay £7.5m for Broadhead, which will be yet another club record transfer sanctioned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac this summer.
The Wales international arrives with a wealth of experience across the EFL and is able to play in multiple positions.
In Wrexham’s current system, it’s likely that Broadhead would be used as a striker alongside Sam Smith or Ryan Hardie.
However, while he’s accomplished as a centre-forward, the Ipswich man has spent most of his career playing out wide.
| Posistion | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Left Winger | 108 | 30 | 16 |
| Centre-Forward | 41 | 25 | 3 |
| Right Winger | 11 | 1 | 1 |
| Second Striker | 9 | 0 | 1 |
| Attacking Midfield | 6 | 2 | 0 |
| Right Midfield | 1 | 0 | 0 |

How Wrexham could line up in back four
Given Wrexham already have three senior left-wing-backs – not including Jacob Mendy, who is leaving, and Ryan Longman, who can also play there – it wouldn’t make much sense for Parkinson to use Broadhead as wing-back that often.
He could just play as a striker, and his pace should make him a threat in behind in that role.
But given he is very accomplished on the left wing and Longman has previous experience out wide in the Championship with Hull City, the option is now there for the Dragons to switch to a back-four.

It might not be something Parkinson wants to do every game, and ripping up his system so close to the season may not be the wisest, but Wrexham can now field what is a very strong eleven when using a back four.
