Wrexham face the possibility of heading into the international break with just one point on the board as they travel to Millwall.

Phil Parkinson’s side have had a tough start to life in the Championship and it doesn’t get any easier with Alex Neil’s side having won two out of the first three games.

Parkinson is ‘managing’ Kieffer Moore with the striker still not 100% fit following an ankle injury and is already without the likes of Ollie Rathbone and Josh Windass.

The Wrexham boss has a number of selection dilemmas ahead of the crucial clash but there is one decision in particular that he simply cannot get wrong.

Arthur Okonkwo must start for Wrexham in Millwall clash

Arthur Okonkwo must be wondering what he has done wrong to be dropped in favour of Danny Ward at the start of the Championship campaign.

After collecting 19 clean sheets last season, the young goalkeeper went from strength to strength and looked set to be one of Parkinson’s key men for the challenge of the second tier.

However, new signing Ward has been given the gloves for the league campaign so far with Okonkwo settling for two appearances in the Carabao Cup.

Wrexham fans want Okonkwo restored as the number one goalkeeper, especially after Ward came in for criticism for his part in the recent defeat to West Brom.

Okonkwo had built an understanding with the Wrexham backline and the likes of Max Cleworth and Lewis Brunt would relish having that security back behind them.

There are a lot of key decisions for Parkinson to make ahead of the trip to The Den but Okonkwo returning in goal has to be at the top of his list.

How long would Arthur Okonkwo accept being Wrexham’s back-up goalkeeper?

For a player of Okonkwo’s quality, it does beg the question as to how long the young Wrexham star would accept being the understudy to Ward.

Humphrey Ker thinks Okonkwo is ‘fantastic’ and even joked that the goalkeeper could attract the attention of the likes of Real Madrid in the future.

Should Okonkwo carry on as the number two through to the January transfer window, Parkinson could have a situation on his hands where the player wants to leave for regular first-team football.

With Parkinson looking to build a Wrexham squad capable of competing in the Championship for years to come, losing a player of Okonkwo’s quality would not be the way to go about doing that.
