Phil Parkinson should sign £22k a week international star with Champions League experience, he’s a Wrexham local lad

Wrexham are still looking to secure new signings before the January transfer window slams shut on February 3rd.

Wrexham confirmed the singing of Ryan Longman in their only January incoming as of yet but are still looking to add to Phil Parkinson’s squad ahead of the League One promotion race.

With Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer struggling for goals, it has been suggested that Wrexham want a new striker in order to bolster their attacking ranks.

Sheffield Wednesday striker Michael Smith has been approached by Wrexham but a deal may be too difficult to pursue with his current club’s reluctance to sell.

There is however, another market opportunity for a player that can play in a number of attacking positions and grew up just 7.3 miles from the Racecourse Ground in Penyffordd.

Tom Lawrence expected to leave Rangers before the January window closes

A number of reports have suggested that Rangers are open to letting Wales international Tom Lawrence leave the club should a suitable bid come in for the attacking midfielder.

Lawrence predominantly operates in the number ten position but can play as a left winger or a second striker as he has done in the past on numerous occasions in his career.

The Wales international has played 15 times for Rangers in all competitions this season but has struggled to cement a regular spot in the first team and missed six weeks with an injury.

Whilst his current wages of £22k a week would be a stumbling block, the pull of returning home and helping Wrexham to League One promotion could be something for the Red Dragons to work with.

Lawrence would provide Wrexham with versatility and experience

Lawrence has played Champions League and Europa League football with Rangers this season and has performed well for the Wales national team with 23 caps and three goals to his name.

Phil Parkinson could be considering a change in formation with the signing of Longman and Lawrence would fit perfectly into a system where he could operate off of the left with freedom to drift inside and make things happen.

Attracting players with experience of the division above has been Wrexham’s transfer strategy since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the club and a player of Lawrence’s quality and track record would be a coup.

Should Lawrence be allowed to leave it would take a monumental effort from Wrexham to sign him but we have seen audacious transfer swoops pulled off in the past under the current owners.

A signing like Lawrence would give the whole club a real lift before a crucial set of fixtures and Wrexham could provide Lawrence himself with a lift that his career is craving right now.
