Wrexham are closing in on the signing of one former player who has been keen on a move since 2022.
Wrexham are preparing for the 2025/26 Championship season, for which they are set to make several changes regarding personnel.
Phil Parkinson has already made some bold calls regarding the current crop of Red Dragons stars. Paul Mullin has departed for Wigan Athletic on loan, whilst Steven Fletcher was let go at the end of his contract last season.
It would be expected that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney would prioritize bringing in a striker or a midfielder; however, a goalkeeper appears to be in their sights with Danny Ward closing in on a move to Wrexham.
Despite the deal making progress this summer, Ward has in fact been interested in a return to the Racecourse Ground since 2022 after the transfer plea he once sent to Reynolds and McElhenney.

Wrexham target Danny Ward sent transfer plea to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2022
Danny Ward has previous experience at the Racecourse Ground, having been at Wrexham from the age of 14 until he was snapped up by Liverpool.
The shot-stopper only made it as far as the bench at Wrexham, not notching a single appearance, but that would soon change if he was to return to the club.
Ward will certainly want to return so he can finally represent the Red Dragons, and it has been an aim of his for, at least, the last three years.
When speaking on the Fearless in Devotion podcast back in 2022, Ward was asked about a potential return to the club, to which he responded: “Get Ryan and Rob on the phone.”

Danny Ward will arrive at Wrexham with plenty of doubters to silence
It would be expected that Ward will join up with Phil Parkinson’s side as a back-up shot-stopper, with Arthur Okonkwo likely to remain in between the sticks. However, there will be plenty of pressure on Ward to perform after what has been a difficult spell at recently relegated Leicester City.
In his seven-year stint with the Foxes, Ward has notched just 44 league appearances. This season, he was handed only five appearances, but struggled in all, having conceded 11 (a goal every 36 minutes).
The Wrexham-born goalkeeper will have plenty to prove after a difficult time at Leicester, and whilst he won’t be Parkinson’s No.1, there will be plenty of expectation that he will need to deliver on.
