Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have faced their fair share of criticism since they decided to buy Wrexham.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds bought Wrexham from their Supporters Trust back in February 2021.
As detailed in the ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘ documentary series, the Supporters Trust did take some convincing to sell to the Hollywood pair.
This was expected given neither McElhenney nor Reynolds had previously expressed an interest in football publically before.
However, the American duo have been nothing short of amazing for Wrexham over the last three and a bit years.
With Phil Parkinson now Wrexham manager, the Welsh outfit have climbed up to the third tier of English football and could still secure yet another promotion in the 2024/25 campaign.
But while Wrexham fans have grown to love their current owners, they do still receive some criticism from those elsewhere in football.

During the 2024 summer transfer window Bolton Wanderer’s manager aimed a dig at Reynolds and McElhenney amid claims they were spending big.
Those claims have largely been proven to be redundant after Birmingham City paid £20m for one player.
Elsewhere, previous comments from talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan made back in March 2024 have now re-emerged, as per Wales Online.
Jordan said in March: “They’ve got huge interest because a lot of people look at Ryan Reynolds. The other fella, he carries his bag.
“When he (Reynolds) shuffles off back to polishing his Hollywood star and is no longer interested, we’ll see how long that interest stays with Wrexham.”

Jordan was previously pretty harsh in his assessment of the pair, as were many other people over the last few years.
However, Jordan has now changed his tune on the duo with fresh comments, also from Wales Online, made this week.
He said: “Wrexham were a non-league football club that has been turned into something unique, as a result of Ryan Reynolds and his mate turning it into a Disneyfication of sport.
“My attitude towards it at the time was, okay, let’s watch it and see how it goes.
“Let’s see how much their attitude and their appetite is there when it gets serious and whether they have the appetite to get into the Championship.
“What I have learned subsequently is the metrics of what they are achieving through the commercial element. You turn on a film like Deadpool, and you see a Welsh Deadpool walking around in one of the scenes. They’ve been able to monetise it beyond the levels that I’d anticipated.”
It is fair to say that Jordan is now much more on board with McElhenney and Reynolds’ ownership of Wrexham and it is easy to see why.
The pair continue to back the club heavily on and off the pitch with it now very clear they are passionate about the project and not just looking to raise their own profile or turn a quick profit.
Wrexham will always have its critics, largely from jealous opposition fans, but Jordan’s recent comments show how their owners are slowly but surely proving all the doubters wrong.
