Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have taken Wrexham to dizzying new heights since their takeover in 2021.

Prior to the American duo purchasing the club, Wrexham had been floundering in the National League for over a decade.

There was no money, the Racecourse Ground was falling apart and supporters had been burned one too many times by previous ownership.

Four years on, however, and the Red Dragons are one of the most well-known sides in America and have climbed the EFL ladder in impressively quick fashion.

Wrexham have won back-to-back promotions and are now eyeing another, currently sitting third in League One and four points off second.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney continue to back the club heavily, with plans to redevelop the Racecourse Ground unveiled this week.

The actors have also spent well over the winter, including signing Jay Rodriguez from Burnley.

What Steven Fletcher told Jay Rodriguez after Wrexham beat Crawley Town

The forward brings with him a wealth of Premier League and Championship experience and is a real statement signing from the club.

Another Wrexham star who previously shone in the top flight and continues to impress in League One despite his age is Steven Fletcher.

Now, as per Leader Live, Elliot Lee has shared what Fletcher told Rodriguez after they scored a 90th-minute winner against Crawley Town over the weekend.

He said: “Obviously it was disappointing to come on and then they score straight away. It’s not a nice feeling.

“But this team never stops and there’s always a feeling with this group that we can do something.

“I heard Steven Fletcher say to Jay Rodriguez at the end of the game: ‘Welcome to Wrexham, this is what happens’.

“I’ve been here for two-and-a-half years now and things like this happen because of the group we’ve got and the staff we have.

“We don’t stop believing and even if we concede in the last minute like that, we’ll try and score in the last second which is what we’ve done and it is credit to the group.”

This is a far cry from what the Wrexham fans of old were used to seeing, highlighting the positive feeling that now encompasses the club following the takeover in 2021.

Elliot Lee sends Wembley message to Wrexham

Wrexham are set to face Port Vale in an EFL Trophy meeting on Tuesday evening.

A victory will take the Red Dragons one step closer to reaching the final and competing at Wembley Stadium.

On the prospect of doing so, Lee added: “The mentality fed down from the gaffer and everywhere at the club is we want to win every game so it will be a strong team whatever team he puts out there.

“We’re all looking forward to it and if there’s a chance to play at Wembley and win some silverware at the end of it, who’s going to turn that down?

“We’ve got a strong squad so all the lads are chomping at the bit to play and that’s another chance for the lads to prove how good they are and hopefully get another win.”
