Despite the tricky start to the 2025/26 Championship season, Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has managed to get one thing spot on so far.

Wrexham have suffered two successive defeats in the Championship after a difficult start to the campaign.

The Red Dragons have been hit with a reality check in recent weeks, finding themselves on the receiving end of a clinical display from West Brom, who smashed three past Wrexham goalkeeper Danny Ward in a 3-2 win, whilst Southampton also notched two late goals in the Championship opener.

Defensive concerns have been raised by Phil Parkinson, and whilst there is work to be done, Wrexham have shone in the final third.

There has been plenty of quality on display by Wrexham, to the point where they lead the Championship in one stat.

Wrexham lead the Championship in chances created

Via OPTA, Wrexham currently lead the way in the Championship for chances created, having notched a total of nine alongside Stoke City, who sit top of the league after two games.

This is a sign that Phil Parkinson’s side have created some brilliant opportunities, and that creativity is proving to be a major quality within this Wrexham side.

However, Wrexham have struggled to convert these chances, scoring just three of their nine big opportunities, in comparison to Stoke City bagging six of theirs.

This has been the difference in the opening two games between Wrexham getting off to a good start in the Championship and them falling short against top sides.

It will soon click for Wrexham and Phil Parkinson

It is clear that Wrexham need time to settle into the Championship, especially with all of their new signings. Once that happens, everything will click.

Phil Parkinson’s tactical set-up has received scrutiny, but it has helped them create a wealth of chances, which ultimately are not being converted at the moment.

Much of it will come down to the confidence of the players in front of goal, and Parkinson must prioritise restoring that so his side can get firing.

They have the firepower required in attack to notch a successful season in the Championship, The likes of Kieffer Moore, Josh Windass and Ryan Hardie have all performed well at this level before, and will soon help Wrexham convert those chances into goals.
