Wrexham in danger of losing ‘quality’ player for nothing in 2025, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney must act

One Wrexham player could end up leaving the club for free in 2025, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney need to make a big offer.

Wrexham are still very much in the early stages of their journey under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney given their ultimate goal is to be playing in the Premier League.

At present, the Red Dragons are battling it out at the top end of League One with automatic promotion still firmly on the cards.

If they are going to win promotion and compete at higher levels, it’s imperative the Welsh outfit have a strong squad, not just a starting eleven.

While new signings will obviously help this, Max Cleworth has certainly proven this season that there’s already a lot of talent on their books who, hopefully, will be big players for years to come.

Cleworth is only 22 and still has the potential to develop into a Championship, maybe even Premier League-quality centre-back.

The stopper is under contract at the Racecourse Ground until 2027 but another of Wrexham’s rising stars could end up leaving in 2025.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney need to sanction new deal for Wrexham ace

Wrexham have already secured the futures of several players over the course of the 2024/25.

Ollie Palmer’s contract extension may have been a mistake given his age, lack of goals, and the fact the club now have seven different striker options but he’s still tied down till 2026.

Jack Marriott earned a new contract as well after previously being at risk of departing as a free agent come the end of 2024/25.

Somewhat surprisingly, Jacob Mendy was also handed a fresh deal earlier this year despite seeing very little game time of late.

Before the campaign is out, however, it’s imperative Wrexham tie another of their players down for the long term.

The man in question is Harry Ashfield, who is currently set to leave Wales on June 30th, 2025 when his deal runs out.

Parkinson dubbed Ashfield ‘quality’ after the teenager scored against Port Vale earlier this week and it’s clear he has a very bright future in the game. Wrexham just need to make sure it’s with them.

Harry Ashfield among six Wrexham players out of contract in 2025

At present, including Ashfield, the Red Dragons are set to lose six players for free at the end of June.

Steven Fletcher and Mark Howard are 37 and 38 respectively, so it’s unlikely their contracts will be extended.

Goalkeepers Liam Hall and Brad Foster could leave in June as well if the club decides against taking up the one-year extensions in their contracts.

Midfielder Josh Adam also has the option of another 12 months but given he’s only made two appearances since signing in September, it would be surprising to see him kept at the club.
