With the League One campaign rapidly approaching Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson is still looking to improve his squad.
It has been a busy summer window for Wrexham with several new faces arriving at the Racecourse.
Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have already shown their support to Phil Parkinson with five new signings arriving in North Wales.
Wrexham started their summer spending with goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo returning to the club.
The Red Dragons have made further additions in Lewis Brunt, George Dobson, Callum Burton and Sebastian Revan.
The club have previously been linked with a move for a striker in the window. However, interest in potential targets like Tom Bradshaw hasn’t materialised.
The club were also interested in Macauley Langstaff before his move to Championship club Millwall was confirmed.
With the club looking at an upgrade in attack, they could look to the free-agent market to bolster their options.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson should target free agent Dwight Gayle
Wrexham have a recent history of buying proven players who have performed at a higher level.
Dwight Gayle featured in several Premier League games throughout his career notably with Crystal Palace and Newcastle United.
The 34-year-old has played 145 times in the Premier League scoring 26 goals in the top flight of English football.
However, it’s the former Premier League striker’s form in the Championship that is impressive.
Gayle, who former Newcastle boss Steve Bruce said has ‘natural finishing’ ability’, has scored 62 goals in 145 Championship appearances, with the former West Brom man a reliable option during his time in the second tier.
With Parkinson potentially looking at upgrading his attacking options, the former Derby County man could provide a cheap option.

What could Dwight Gayle offer Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson
If Gayle did arrive at the Racecourse he could offer a wealth of Championship experience that could be vital in progressing the younger members of the squad.
The former Crystal Palace star has a plethora of experience in higher divisions and would follow the transfer strategy that saw Steven Fletcher and James McClean join in 2023.
In terms of attacking options, Gayke would more likely be an option off the bench with Paul Mullin being Wrexham’s key man.
The former Cambridge striker is often paired with a target man like Ollie Palmer or Fletcher.
The former Championship striker is only 5ft 9ins and likes to run in behind.
Gayle would most likely be competing with Marriott as an impact sub. The 34-year-old has a strong goal-scoring record and could provide a real challenge for the current Wrexham star.
The former Newcastle United man has struggled with injuries throughout his career. If he regains fitness and his goal-scoring form, he could be a solid option for Parkinson to consider this summer.
