Now that Wrexham look set to move on from Ben Davies, a fellow Welsh superstar could be on their mind as a potential signing ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season.
Wrexham are gearing up for the 2025/26 Championship campaign, where they will hope to build on three successive promotions.
Phil Parkinson’s side will no doubt heavily recruit this summer, and do so with the intent of bringing in Premier League and Championship experience so they are best prepared for the challenges ahead.
Several names, including Tom Cairney and Tom Lawrence, have been targeted. Elsewhere, Wrexham held talks with Ben Davies, but the Tottenham Hotspur man looks set to stay put after the club triggered an extension in his contract.
Parkinson shouldn’t halt his pursuit of any Welsh stars there, though. One man could play a crucial part in his Wrexham side, and such a move would have the seal of approval from former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
Wrexham should sign Liverpool and Welsh star Lewis Koumas this summer
Parkinson will no doubt wish to add some Welsh firepower to his ranks this season, and there may not be a more obvious route to go down than potentially capturing the signing of Lewis Koumas.
The Liverpool man is expected once again to be available, either as a loan or a permanent signing from the Reds, due to the expectation that he won’t be part of Arne Slot’s immediate plans.
Last season, the pacey winger, who has an eye for goal, endured a successful spell at Stoke City, where he notched three goals and two assists.
At 19 years old, the Chester-born attacker may be keen to stay in the local area, and a move to Wrexham could greatly favour the winger, who has already proven his ability at Championship level.
Wrexham have already been told by Jurgen Klopp why they should sign Lewis Koumas
There is no doubt that Liverpool have one of the finest academies in the country, and Lewis Koumas only backs up that claim.
Coming through the academy, it has already been clear that he has vast potential, and that is something that even Jurgen Klopp noticed early on.
Speaking in February 2024, after Koumas bagged for Liverpool in an FA Cup win over Southampton, per Wales Online, Klopp said: “A wonderful goal. A boy playing on the left wing against a senior player in a team with not a lot of patterns, let me say it like that, is tricky.
“Staying in the game for these moments just shows he is a real striker because the goal is exceptional, the step in and then he shoots before the goalie can settle. A really good finish.”
Klopp has also previously regarded the youngster as a ‘special’ talent that stood out in the academy set-up. There is no doubt that he could build on his spell at Stoke City last year and show even more quality this season, and Wrexham should be the ones to first pounce on that.
