Wrexham are preparing to compete in the Championship for the first time since the competition was rebranded in the early 2000s.
The Red Dragons were still, after a 15-year stint, playing National League football in 2023.
However, they have now set an EFL record and become the first side ever to win three promotions in a row.
Wrexham are returning to the second tier for the first time ever, but expectations going into the new season seem relatively high.
Rob McElhenney played down ‘consolidation’ for the 2025/26 season, seemingly suggesting the club could try and go for another promotion.
Now, the club’s transfer consultant, Les Reed, has been discussing their aims ahead of next term.

Les Reed echoes Rob McElhenney Wrexham message
Obviously, no side in history has ever won four promotions on the spin in English football.
But clubs going back-to-back to reach the Premier League from League One does happen occasionally.
Ipswich Town did it most recently before suffering relegation back down to the second tier in 2024/25.
Now, speaking to The I Paper, Reed has been asked about Wrexham pushing to reach the top flight and, like McElhenney, played down consolidation.
He said: “We are definitely aiming high; we mustn’t lose that aspiration and momentum.
“We’re not by any means predicting that we’re going to go [straight] to the Premier League, but we don’t just want to go ‘okay, the journey is over, we’re in the Championship, let’s stabilise and consolidate’.
“We need to get through this window with some good recruitment and establish ourselves, not as a survivor, but as a challenger, i.e. in a good season, could we get into the play-offs?
“We would love to break that record [of four straight promotions] and, given the circumstances, we’ll give it our best shot.”

2025/26 Championship season start date
The summer transfer is now open, and attention is quickly turning toward the new season.
Wrexham will play their first ever Championship game in August.
The second-tier campaign will kick off over the weekend of August 8-August 10.
Wrexham’s 2025/26 fixtures will be announced, along with the rest of the league, on June 26.
