Rumours and reports are rife about how much Wrexham are spending this summer. But Phil Parkinson finds it rather amusing.
Last January Wrexham broke their club transfer record with the £2million signing of Sam Smith from Reading, in a season that saw the club smash their transfer record on multiple occasions.
And this summer, it looks like Phil Parkinson’s side will set a few more records following their promotion to the Championship, with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham having now secured three-straight promotions.
Already there have been some interesting reports about how much the club will spend this summer. The latest reports have claimed that Wrexham have a £25million transfer budget this summer.
And we’ve seen some quite extraordinary reports of players linked with the club too. One report has even claimed that Wrexham have offered Tom Cairney a contract ahead of his potential Fulham departure.
It’s been reported that Wrexham will pay Cairney £50,000-a-week to join the club this summer.

Phil Parkinson rues ‘laughable’ Wrexham rumours
Speaking to Leader Live, Parkinson has been discussing all the speculation about what his side are paying for players and how much they’re paying them every week, and the Dragons boss has branded a lot of the speculation as being ‘laughable’.
He said: “People speculate about what we have paid for players and a lot of it is so overinflated that it is almost laughable at times. Going back a couple of years when people used to quote what we were paying people, quite often it was way off the mark.
“We’ve operated in a structured way and we think carefully about the players we bring in, in terms of the value for the season coming up and value going forward as assets in the squad. We weigh-up every player carefully and have kept to a structure in terms of the wages as much as we possibly can.”

Wrexham’s wage bill has quadrupled following promotion
We may never know the exact numbers that are banded around behind the scenes at Wrexham. All we have to go off are these reports that Parkinson deems to be laughable at times.
One report earlier in the year revealed how Wrexham’s wage bill will quadruple following promotion to the Championship, going from £11million-a-season to an incredible £44million-a-season.
Other sources claimed that Wrexham paid out £1.5million in bonuses to the players and staff following promotion this season, and so it seems clear that Reynolds and McElhenney aren’t afraid to throw about the cash and reward the players handsomely for their success.
Who knows how much the players might go on to earn if they’re promoted again next season.
