The new summer signings will be looking to impress in pre-season but one Wrexham star is fighting for his future at the Racecourse.

Many new faces have arrived at Wrexham this summer with more expected to arrive before the League One campaign kicks off.

After recent transfer talks with owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson remains keen to add to his squad.

The Wrexham owners have already sanctioned moves for Arthur Okonkwo, George Dobson, Lewis Brunt, Callum Burton and Sebastian Revan.

The former Sunderland manager is insistent on bringing in further quality in depth to his squad, meaning many players could be in danger of being sold this summer.

The North Wales team may be looking to move on some current players to make room for further summer additions.

The Wrex Coast tour is a good opportunity for the fringe players in the squad to impress Parkinson and fight for their future at the club.

One player who may feel he needs to fight for his place is former Championship wing-back Anthony Forde.

Anthony Forde is fighting for his Wrexham future

Forde has been a useful player for Parkinson during his tenure at the Racecourse. The wing-back has played his part in the squad that secured back-to-back promotions to League One.

The former Championship star has provided strong competition at the right-wing spot.

However, in the winter window last season Wrexham secured the signing of Salford City wing-back Luke Bolton.

Since arriving in North Wales, Bolton has been the main competitor to Ryan Barnett for the starting role on the right wing.

Forde has struggled with injuries and fitness in the last campaign making only 14 appearances in League Two.

The 30-year-old recently returned to on-field action for the club in a 1-1 draw against Premier League side AFC Bournemouth.

Forde will be looking to impress the Wrexham boss in the remaining friendly fixtures, with Wrexham set to face Chelsea in California at the Levi’s Stadium on Thursday (3am UK time).

Anthony Forde is a likley candidate to leave Wrexham this summer

Competition for places will be high, and unfortunately for Forde, his recent injury record has hampered his chances of playing regular football at the Racecourse.

Bolton and Barnett have been the favoured two to play at wing-back on the right. Both players are younger than the former Oxford United man, with the 30-year-old reaching his more senior years in his career.

The defender may want to seek regular game time elsewhere if he cannot guarantee regular minutes under Parkinson in the coming League One campaign.

The Wrex Coast tour will provide the Red Dragon star with a perfect opportunity to show he is capable of competing against the likes of Bolton and Barnett for a starting role.

However, if he does put in good performances on the tour, he may attract potential suitors. In either scenario, it may be a positive outcome for both parties, with Forde looking to regain his fitness and stay injury-free in the coming campaign.
