Pre-season preparations are well under way at Wrexham with manager Phil Parkinson looking at options to further improve his team.
The coming campaign will be a step up in quality, leaving the former Sunderland coach keen to add quality in depth at the Racecourse.
Two main transfer priorities have already been addressed this summer, the additions of returning goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and the Red Dragons snapping up Leicester City defender Lewis Brunt.
Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will be supporting the club in the market, with more signings expected to arrive in North Wales before the season kicks off in August.
The Red Dragons have been linked with numerous midfield targets, including Joe Morrell who is now available on a free transfer after confirming his exit from Portsmouth.
However, Parkinson’s transfer priorities may have changed due to the latest injury update on one of his key players.
Paul Mullin to miss start of 2024/25 League One season at Wrexham
With excitement building for the season, the manager and fans alike will be disappointed with the latest injury blow.
Ahead of pre-season, the club have announced Paul Mullin will not be part of the ‘Wrex Coast Tour’ in the United States and Canada.
The former Cambridge United striker has struggled with lower back and hamstring issues, which the medical department decided surgery was required. The Wrexham talisman underwent the procedure in the middle of June.
The club have stated that there is no expectation when Mullin can be back on the pitch, but it seems very likely that he will miss the start of the coming season.
Wrexham transfer priority under Phil Parkinson may now have to shift
With the latest injury to his key striker, the Wrexham boss may now decide the next key transfer should be a quality forward.
Mullin was Wrexham’s top goal-scorer last season with 24 goals in League Two. The forward’s timeline for a return is unknown, but with the season fast approaching an incoming transfer could relieve Parkinson’s injury woes.
With the 29-year-old sidelined for the foreseeable, the manager will be looking to other options in the squad to step up. Veteran Steven Fletcher and Club record signing Ollie Palmer will be the main options, with Jack Marriott and Sam Dalby also available.
However, Parkinson may feel due to Fletcher’s age and the lack of goals from Dalby and Marriott last campaign, he needs a quality addition to his frontline.
Signing an experienced and talented striker would also help boost the squad when Mullin returns. A new addition would help Parkinson rotate his forward options and hope to reduce any injury concerns in the future.
