As Wrexham’s Championship fixtures are released, it is now clear that April will be a massive challenge for Phil Parkinson’s side.

Wrexham are gearing up for the 2025/26 Championship season, where they will hope to build on the momentum they have gained in recent years, notching a fantastic three successive promotions.

On Thursday, Wrexham’s Championship fixtures were released as they learn they will travel to Southampton on the opening day, whilst they also learned that they will welcome Hull City in the League Cup first round.

Looking in more depth in Wrexham’s Championship fixtures, there are a few tricky runs that Phil Parkinson’s side will have to endure, including one six-game run in April that includes a trip to one of the Red Dragons’ biggest rivals, as well as a former Premier League side.

April could be make-or-break for Wrexham and Phil Parkinson

It is unclear what Wrexham’s ambitions next season will be – fans wish for survival to be sealed, but the deals that the Red Dragons have been linked to so far suggest that they want to go further than consolidation in the Championship.

Whatever the circumstances of Wrexham’s campaign are, they will know that April will be pivotal for their season. With six games in 22 days in April, four of which are on the road, it is safe to assume that Parkinson will have seen that period as a difficult one.

Included in that six-game April run are trips to West Brom, Birmingham City, and Coventry City, whilst the Racecourse Ground will also welcome former Premier League side Southampton. Other games include Stoke City at home, as well as Oxford United away.

Squad depth will be vital to Phil Parkinson in demanding periods

Looking at the jam-packed schedule in April, Parkinson will have to demand a lot of his squad, and this just further emphasises the need to hammer home recruitment this summer.

Wrexham have started well this summer, bringing in Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle. The Red Dragons needed Championship-proven quality, and he is just that, but they cannot stop there.

Options are rather light in some positions, and that could come back to bite Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, especially in that dreaded April period.

Wrexham should do all they can to bring in several more players, not just for the necessity of quality, but they will soon realise that this season will be far more demanding than the rest. That has to be met with extra players through the door.
