Wrexham already know that there will be no easy game in the Championship next season.

Wrexham face Southampton in their season opener at St Mary’s Stadium and the size of their task becomes apparent when they join Manchester City and Arsenal as the most recent teams to visit the ground.

Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham team v Southampton is likely to include several new signings as he looks to bolster his squad but will also want to keep the core of his side that earned League One promotion.

When looking at Wrexham’s full fixture list, there is no easy run of games and the whole Championship campaign will be a grind – but that is what the Red Dragons specialise in.

Early predictions for Wrexham’s first six games of the 2025-26 Championship season

Wrexham got off to a flying start last season with a 3-2 victory over promotion rivals Wycombe at the Racecourse Ground.

In fact, the Red Dragons were unbeaten in their opening five games before losing to Birmingham 3-1 at St Andrews. Wrexham Insider has predicted the outcome of the club’s opening six games as a good start is needed to build confidence…

Southampton 2-0 Wrexham

As mentioned, despite having a dismal season back in the Premier League, Southampton drew 1-1 with Manchester City and only lost out to a last minute winner from Martin Odegaard in their final two home matches.

Will Still has recently been appointed as the club’s new manager and will want to get off to a fast start in their quest for an immediate return to the top flight.

Arthur Okonkwo will be busy on the opening day and despite some impressive defensive resilience, Saints will just have too much for the Red Dragons in a 2-0 victory.

Wrexham 1-1 West Bromwich Albion

The atmosphere at the Racecourse on August 16th will be something to behold and there is no way that Parkinson’s men will not rise to the occasion.

West Brom will pose a stern test and can mix it physically and play some impressive football but this is the game where the Red Dragons get their first point on the board.

Max Cleworth was praised by his teammates last season for his performances and the defender developed a knack for scoring important goals.

Cleworth will open Wrexham’s account for the season to earn a hard-fought draw in their Championship opener in North Wales.

Wrexham 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer embargo means that it could be a difficult summer at Hillsborough as they adjust to the restrictions.

Wednesday still have bundles of quality at the club, Wrexham’s long-term target Michael Smith signed a new contract.

Barry Bannan is of interest to Wrexham but there are now doubts over Sheffield Wednesday’s willingness to part ways as they cannot replace him.

Matchday three is where Parkinson’s side pick up their first win, a scrappy 1-0 win with Sam Smith opening his account.

Millwall 0-0 Wrexham

Wrexham have to become hard to beat on the road and despite starting the season inconsistently, their away form was excellent during the second half of last season.

Vital victories at Huddersfield and Wycombe were the highlights and there will not be many tougher grounds to go to than Millwall.

The atmosphere will be white-hot at the Den and Parkinson’s side will have to control their emotions and play their own game.

James McClean is relishing the challenge of playing in South London and the skipper will lead his side to 0-0 draw as another precious point is earned.

Wrexham 2-1 QPR

Goals and creativity did not flow for Parkinson’s side last season and with the step up in opposition, there are many fans that fear the team do not have enough firepower currently.

Wrexham have signed Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle and the striker ended last season in outstanding form, scoring ten goals across the campaign.

Hardie will bring energy and a physical presence alongside Smith but he is also somebody who knows where the goal is at this level.

He gets off the mark alongside Ollie Rathbone in a 2-1 victory for Wrexham and continues their unbeaten start at home.

Norwich 3-1 Wrexham

Norwich were the entertainers in the Championship last season, scoring bundles but were also prone to conceding a few as well.

Josh Sargeant was one of the most prolific forwards in the division last season and the USA international is just one example of the calibre of player Wrexham can expect to face next season.

Norwich’s movement and slickness in possession may cause just one too many problems and defeat at Carrow Road will occur for the Red Dragons.

However, Two wins, two draws and two defeats would represent a solid start to life in the second tier for Wrexham.
